I called Mel today.
Super nice guy!
He chuckled when I told him what I did. He had everything in stock and got it out on UPS today and sent me the tracking number. Very Very reasonable price.

I was already on the road when the info on Chado was posted.
I don't know if I need the extension or not, so I just got it. The bottom of the Tent is 6' 4" on flat level gound
How much for the ladder and extension?

Per Mel, $51 for ladder, $45 for extension, but he gave a deal price for extension @ $18. Shipped to me next day for grand total of $77, although I am only 3 hours away from DFW.

I retro-fitted the 3rd design ladder to a 1st-gen tent that came with the steel ladder. The new ladder hung over the edge of the folded tent and wouldn't allow the cover to fit. The first gen tents are much longer front to rear but narrower side-to-side than the later tents I guess.
Had to drill out the pop rivets, remove the end caps and cut down both halves of the ladder about a foot. I then re-rivetted the caps. It works so much better at the shallower angle and is far easier to get in out of the tent. No belay devices required
With no lift and 33" tires it is about an inch short on level ground and has to be propped on a couple levelling ramps. When I install the OME lift, I'll get an extension from Mel.
p.s. I'm pushing about 205 and no worries about sturdiness of the new ladder design.

I had the same problem and Ive heard of a few others. Not always from heavy people ,but average size guys who are living and travelling on the road for a long period of time.
The South African tents like the Hannibal brand have a very sturdy looking but compact ladder from 1"x1" alloy box tube(I think its alloy)
I found half a heavy duty 6 metre extension ladder on the freeway last week ,jammed it into the 73 series and drove home
Ive cut it back down to about 5 ft. Its a little bulky but I will feel safe using it in remote areas. I plan on finding/building a better way to carry it

is that 6" per section? I'm doing the same I have a 85 fj60 with a 2"ome lift, do you have any pictures of the ladder? I had to order seperate mounts from them. FYI I was told that Mel no longer works there.

Need some help with this same situation. I tried contacting CTT, after my gen-1 ladder s*** out, with no response. Anyone know if they are stillin biz or what?

appenrently Mel no longer works there.
you have to have a new cover made, the old one does not quite stretch enough, I also chose to get the new ladder mounting brackets rather than modify the old ones.
