Is there any interest in possibly doing a week in Moab in the mid-September to early October time frame?

Found out that I won't be in the field for the month of September like I was originally suppose to be, and I'd like to take advantage of that time to make another trip out to the slick rock. The weather should be fairly decent as well, and camping is plentiful out there too.

Anyone interested?

Interested for sure, just depends on what you mean by early October. I'll have some time off starting October 11th. If that's too late, I might still try to make it depending on when you go.

Ideally, I'd like to go late September, as I know mid October we will be ramping up to go to California for a month in the desert to play Army. My chances of approved time off drop drastically the closer I submit towards that date.

Sounds good. Once you and how else might be joining you decide on some dates, I'll do my best to join you all (even if it's just for a short period of time).

Thinking about it. The prospect of driving the Frank that far isn't too appealing, but the castor correction did help with the highway manners a bit. My wife is taking a photo class this fall and is actually interested in going (she's not crazy about camping) to get some nice pictures of scenic Moab.

I'm not committing yet, but I'm tempted.

My wife wasn't too thrilled about camping either. But there's a campground off 313 that's far enough from Moab to be quiet, but close enough to town that was really nice. We stayed there for CruiseMoab. We just bought a privacy hut and some solar showers (which are amazing) and we had everything we needed. And the pit toilets were actually very clean and nice. My wife was impressed with them. They are fulling enclosed too, unlike the ones closer to Moab, or near the trail heads for Fins N Things and Hells Revenge.

I actually wouldn't mind spending a day in Arches NP and doing some hiking there. We didn't have much time last to do so. There's also an easy trail that runs out of Arches back to the highway that we did (and got lost on for a minute) lol

Brian, Do you think that you would camp somewhere that is accessible to a pop-up camper? Taking the pop-up would make this more tempting for the wife/kiddo. I can do short distances on dirt roads, even if fairly rough. But I wouldn't take it it on anything that we would call a "trail". I am really tempted to get out to Moab. Luke, do you think you would take your pop-up?

Definitely. That campground I was able to park my F250, 18ft hauler and my 80, plus I had ample room for tent and what not. The road is paved until the turn off to the campground, which is like 1/4 mile down a dirt road.

I wouldn't take my pop up. My poor old 178k mile Cherokee's legs are getting old. That would be a rough trip for it pulling the extra 1000 pounds. Late September should be cool enough to tent camp pretty comfortably, if I don't just get lazy and sleep on the ground without a tent.

My daughter and wife have their birthdays on the 6th and 19th, so later is better for me.

Also, might be a good idea to post up some trails to run while out there. I'd be more than happy to lead Hell's Revenge and Fins n Things. Both have plenty of bypasses for those that don't want to do some of the harder sections.

I would like to make it down there with you guys but that is during hunting season so I won't make it. I think I did red elephant when I was there and you can do a hike that is pretty awesome.

pic of said hike and it was elephant hill not red elephant

What dates work for you? I'm really available whenever, just not too late into October.
