Great pics and videos guys! My heart is still racing from watching Mike coming up that ravine. Is that Hell's Gate? Keep the pics coming and enjoy this adventure!

More snuggie pics!

On Mike's camera, I have the absolute best snuggie picture you've ever seen. It was leaked on FB, so Ramon and Brian have already beheld its glory. When I'm back to civilization, I'll upload it here.

Yup, that's Hell's Gate. Pretty crazy, right? Puts Uwharrie to shame, lol.

The past two days have been fxxxing nuts. Wednesday was a break day, so we built a new bumpstop for Burt and drank a bunch of beer. I don't have pictures of it yet, but it's called the Go Fast and Turn Left ( TM ) bumpstop and worked perfectly, for 100 yards till the rubber disintegrated, lmao.

After doing that yesterday, a group of us hit Pritchett Canyon, which is the single most difficult trail in Moab, UT. After breaking a brake line, a DS motor mount, two tail lights and putting a couple new pieces of 'character' on Burt, we winched a ton and made it through the canyon. What a day! Words cannot describe the amount of fun we had. Every single truck in our group, including two mini trucks with 220:1 crawl ratios, winched at some point on the trail, except for the $100k buggy that was in our group.

Tomorrow, Mike and I are taking the day off to fix Burt up, permanently, so we can hit Golden Spike on Saturday.

As always, there are a bit more than a hundred new pictures in the Picasa album. Here are some of the best ones:

Where else can you see trucks like these at the local pub?

Yes, we winched up vertical walls. The 80 in the bottom of the picture was using a boulder the size of a living room as a winch point, and it dragged the boulder down the mountain a solid 4" before I yelled at them to stop. That would have ended the guy's day should it have come down!

Wow. Just, wow!

Golden Spike is the best trail in Moab. Be prepared for a really long day. Don't forget to post up some pics.

Excellent! We've been told it's good, so we're looking forward to it. We won't forget the pics, don't worry :D

Ive heard of johnson valley. Where is that?

What was up with the front axle ?

DS bumpstop to prevent the tie rod from hitting the sector shaft on the steering box,and whike welding the bumpstop, apparently a spark melted the DS front soft line.

in the process of fixing thr broken motor mount...

What i meant in my drugged mind right now is the front end was not working in the videos. Is the one part on the transfer giving up the ghost ?

Oh, it's getting power from the transfer case, for sure. The Auburn LSD up front blows for the hard trails that we're running. It locks on puny dirt roads and sand tracks, but never locks when you're on difficult trails such as Pritchett. If Mike had a full locker up front, he would have made it up Rocker Knocker without issue, same with a bunch of other obstacles on Pritchett. I believe I can speak for him when I say that one of the first things he needs to do is get a proper locker in the front end of his rig.

Yes ryan i want to know if there is any midget porn too?

 Sorry Ryan and Meatball, no midget porn here in Utah. Too many mormons.

well this takes place in part of johnson valley

Damn man, that's nasty. I can't watch the whole thing while out here in the sticks, but from what I can see, that's wicked. My new goal for Moonshine is to have her fully ready to run Johnson Valley :grinpimp:

More pictures have been uploaded from yesterday, and here are some from today. Mike and I took the day off so we could square away the issues we faced yesterday.

1: Motor mount.

On my 60, the DS motor mount has the studs aligned exactly the same top and bottom, so it was very easy for me to push out the studs with my 20t press, drill out the holes and put a 1/2 inch bolt through. However, on the 62, the studs are offset for some dumb reason, so fixing the motor mount was slightly more difficult. We ended up having to elongate the slotted hole in the DS motor mount on his frame so the hole in the bracket attached to the motor would line up with the hole in the frame. After doing so, we had to significantly modify the mount itself so that the bolt would fit through. Initially, I thought that with a little heat and some persuasion with a BFH, we could get the studs out, then simply drill out the holes and be done with it. Unfortunately, it was not that easy.

After torching the damn things for a solid 15 minutes and beating the living s*** out of the studs, they still would not come out. We ended up grinding the head of one stud off and then were able to pound it out, but the other side, due to the remaining rubber, needed to be drilled.

After that fiasco, we were able to line up the bolt through the mount, but found that with the new configuration, the tabs on the motor mount were interfering with either the block or the alternator bracket, so those got ground off. Finally, we were able to tap the bolt from the bottom up through the motor mount and secure it with the impact gun. The final product, a newly improved DS motor mount that will never fail:

2. Bump stop

After the first version of the bumpstop failing, we decided that two rolled up cotton shirts would be the best material to cushion the axle from coming up so far that the tie rod intersected with the sector shaft. Two hose clamps and two t-shirts later, we were golden:

3. DS soft brake line

We ran around to every single parts store in Moab ( all 4 of them ) and realized that not a single store stocked metric brake line parts. I guess this really is a Jeep town:rolleyes:. After placing an order for two brake lines ( NAPA part 38881 ), we fixed the two above things and then asked everyone at camp if they had a spare. Long story short, no one did. Who doesn't pack a spare brake line? The answer is...us. All that are reading this thread should immediately go put some spare soft brake lines in their trail toolbox. If you don't need them, someone else will.

Fortunately, a buddy from NY, Nick with the black 4Runner in the pictures, had a couple of parts that Mike was able to make work. Now, we have fully functioning brakes and are ready to hit the trail :grinpimp:

Tomorrow is Golden Spike and is the last day of Cruise Moab. There will be many more pictures, and hopefully video, to document everything.

Good night gents, have a good sleep!

Well, it was not a new one when we swapped axles. At the time i never thought he would be rubbing the trails he is running.

So is the idea to set this thing up just mostly for off road now ? :bounce::bounce2:

He didnt put it together thinking he'd run these trails either. I think he'll want to set this up for more extreme offroading now.
