Gathering parts for the power steering conversion
From what I read I need a 1979-1985 Toyota Truck/4Runner 4x4 power steering gear box from a 4cylinder.
Do I look for a gear box that has that ridge going down the middle?
What do you folks lean towards? Buy a refurbished one or rebuild one off of Ebay?

Some I found online
Summit Racing $469.99
Buy Auto Part $469.10
Ebay $279.99 + rebuild

I'd do the Summit unit. Ebay - who says that it is rebuildable - did they just pull it off or did they inspect it for damage/cracks?

Just to clarify. (I edited my post, it was a little confusing)
For the mini truck power steering conversion I will need a power steering box with out a tilt or angle built in.
I'm assuming the one I posted from summit and ebay does not have an angle but I can't verity from their pictures.

To my knowledge you need one from a mini truck or 4Runner with a solid axle not independent suspension. 79-85. We The angle on stock pedestal is wrong for mini trucks. 40 series steering boxes have a greater angle. Mini trucks with stock pedestal will be too low to line up with the steering column. Custom pedestal needs to replace the stock pedestal.

I forgot to add that I will be getting the custom pedestal to mount the steering gear box from Jtoufitters.

I maybe able to find a mini truck gear box locally but want to make sure if they have an angle?

The one below is local but seems to have an angle, or tilt to it.

I just resealed mine a short time ago and took some pics, these might help you with your angle question.

I wouldn’t start with the red painted one, I see a lot of work ahead on that one and it doesn’t look like the top cap is original, it’s missing the spanner wrench recessed holes so setting preload on the input bearing that under that cap would be a challenge.

That’s good to know also looks like there is a slight angle. This one also popped up I will check if it has the recessed holes.

Thank you

Make sure to use your existing pitman arm, IIRC it’s longer than the mini truck arm so you maintain your turning radius
