Well, things are ruff in the economy as we all know and I am facing what is being termed a temporary lay off at the end of the month. My senoirity puts me right on the edge as to wether I go or not but could be called back in a couple weeks or a couple months...

I'm pretty torn, I've been working as a helicopter mechanic for 13 years and don't really know if I want to change carears. I've been working on a week on week off basis for 10 years now and don't look forward to bankers hours...

:princess: is putting pressure on me to be home more but i don't know if mon to friday puts me at home that much more. A week off is a pretty decent amount of time to spend with my son all day every day rather than come home tired to spend an hour or 2 with him and then have a million things to do on the weekend. I would also need to buy a DD. On the other hand I don't want to hang on in case things don't get any better. If there is a turn in the forest industry or at least just a decent forest fire season we will scrap through the year.

Anyone know of anything interesting in the Duncan to Nanaimo area? Something temporary posibly? I don't even know where to start...

My lawn needs mowing...:flipoff2:

s***ty about the job dude. I'm sorta inbetween careers too.

Trouble is the inbetween s*** I'm doing now is kinda fun, helluva lot easier than rebuilding old wooden boats, so I'm not exactly being quick about decisions...

I'll probably be doing the rodney dangerfield back to school thing when I'm an old fart.

that sucks! I would rather be home everynight then be home every second week. you can miss alot in a week that the wife has to tell you about.

Yes I can miss out on lots but I think its great, i saw big changes in my son the first 6 months and subtle changes the first year which was hard but nothing is better than a whole week off, hanging out all day every day with them, camping every ohter weekend all summer, working in the garage at least 4 nights on the week off, not coming home tired after work to eat dinner and put my son to bed, ya theres things to catch up on but not a bunch of things that have to be done in a weekend...

My ideal shift would be 4 on 4 off home every night but its not very common. My schedule has always been very regular. I don't need a daily driver, up until this point I have made decent money, good benefits etc...

Cdn Linen is hiring drivers. 4 x 10hr days, 3 off, or 5 x 8hr days, 2 off. No nights, no weekends. Occasional hotel-overnights with a meal allowance if you get sent up-Island (but you can always just go home on your own time, instead - it's up to you). Teamster shop. Money's not great but full benefits including chiro, family ortho and optic, etc. Mindless, non-challenging work. No real danger or hazmat. You could probably negotiate yourself $19/hr to start (I did). Commissions, bonuses and prizes on top of your hourly. Free uniform .

Then when things pick up at your real job you can just walk away. Everybody does. I did. :D

Same here man, lots of aviation is drying up these days...

How interested would you be to fly up here weekly? I have a contact that is a helicopter mechanic who's dad owns the company, so I could ask if they need help? If so, I could get you the contact and you can have a chat with them.
Cheers,
Deny

Well boss man called today and I'm going back next week. Wifey had given me a deadline to start looking hard on 15th so she's happy now. Thanks for the info though guys.
