He was referring to the size 9.00x16 tires and stock gearing being bad for these tires.
Ebay has new Chinese copies called yellowsea ys20 for around $299 each.
Shipping is out of Washington State.

From what I've read most people who have used both prefer the yellowsea. Something about balancing better and wearing less, but I don't know first hand.
I read on some forum (maybe here?) that Michelin wasn't real interested in selling or discussing private sales to individuals on those tires. Not sure what that is about but my guess is they make enough off of gov contracts they don't need private sales?

Wow! Those things are ridiculously overpriced... People were getting them for 100$ a pop 10 yrs ago...
But they are ridiculously badass

Allright well I have accepted that I will have to get the clones but I have another question:
Will they fit on stock 16" 1997 LX450 wheels?
I was told by someone that they will.
Anyone know? thanks

80 lbs each? Wow...does anyone have a pic of what these look like on an 80?

Did you get them?? Post a pick and your thoughts.

I'm thinking of them for my 40.

Nope. I ended up going with some Toyo's. Before I pulled the trigger on the Toyo's I talked to a guy in Canada who sells Michelin military tires. I apologize in advance to anyone who is running them, but he said the Yellow Seas are complete crap. Its been a while so I can't recall the specifics, but they are made by communists so its not very hard to believe.
I forget the name of the Canadian company but they can even get the 33'' XZL's. They have good prices but with the shipping and customs it came out to slightly more than the Chinese ones. Give him a call if your interested: 416-800-2682. His name is Alex and he is very helpful. Hope you bite the bullet and get some authentic ones because they are some hard core tires.

I ran the Michelin XZL 9.0R16 tires back in 2004. I had stock gearing at the time and the lift was just a OME 850/863 spring set with 1.5" spring spacers. I thought the size was nice and preferred the tall skinny style. The build quality of the tires was very high. They required much less weight to balance compared to BFG Krawlers or Interco tires. The biggest downside was their weight, relatively loud noise on pavement, very thick lugs that produced a serious wandering issue once you got up to highway speeds, and thick, stiff sidewalls so that even when aired down to 10-15 psi they did not flex well on the trail. The other issue was just how rare they were so it was always a concern if you needed a replacement or even a spare.
Sorry for the grainy pics but those are the best I had from running them.
