Rally the troops, prep your rigs and lets get on the trail already!

Run:
The general idea here is a run from Rattlesnake Canyon up to Burns Canyon all the way up to the eastern end of Big Bear Valley. I'll post some detail on the runs below.

Post Run Eats 'n Drinks:
There's a BBQ place called B's Backyard (index) that we can check out. Never eaten there, but its the old Tail Of the Whale location if anyone remembers that place. Right on the water, should be nice. Lots of other places if this place doesnt make the cut.

Meet Location:
We should meet at the Rattlesnake Canyon trail head unless you're meeting guys local and driving up together. Rattlesnake Canyon Road is off of Highway 241(aka Old Woman Springs Road) near the intersection of Joshua Tree Road and Highway 241. to: 34.372345,-116.655579 - Google Maps

Meet Time:
Morning'ish? I want to make sure everyone has enough time to drive up there Saturday morning since most of us are coming from some distance away. Maybe 10am...

Comms:
Ham Freq - 146.520
CB Channel - ??

Run Detail:
I'm going to attach some info I scanned...

First off, thanks for stepping up for this M@G!

Very cool! I might make this my birthday trip.

I just talked to my buddy that works with USFS. This is what he said regarding the trail condition.

"2N69Y/2N70Y

Isn't affected by any of the Forest Closure Orders, was way northeast of any of the fires.

San Bernardino National Forest - Current Conditions

I'd check with the Discovery Center - but it _should_ be open."

Looking good so far.
Umm food... something to look forward to after the run! ;p

Count me in. Never been on that one before, should be good. Maybe some snow higher up towards B/B?

Can you suggest a CB channel or 2m HAM freq to monitor to make contact on the way in that AM?

Looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for taking the ball Brad.

Yes, I was thinking there may be some snow up higher. As it gets closer I'll ask my parents if there's any snow out that way so we know what to expect.

I dont have a HAM or CB, so I'll leave it to you guys to pick a channel/freq and I'll throw it back in the original post.

2N02 "Burns Canyon" is open as of today as well. Will check in as the date draws closer.

If i attend, i'll be running national simplex 146.520 on the 2 meter.
What do you mean "If i attend..."?
I might have a 2m setup and who else am I going to blah blah blah with?

Dave, do you know of any place LA local that might carry the Wilson 2m antenna (other than Walcott)? Ive decided on the Yaesu 2800 and and the Wilson - and I would love to try the 2m on this run - that is like I really know what Im doing .

Sorry, not Dave here, but have you been to hamcity? Part of Jun's Electronics.
Not sure if they have the exact antenna you're looking for but a great place to look around.

Heres the info, don't know how close you are to Culver city...

Hey Dan - Thanks for the info!
I tried searching under Wilson antenna. No luck. And I recall PabloVTA not having any luck finding the Wilson 2m there either. I work at Westwood so Hamcity is a closer drive than Burbank - Ham Radio Outlet. Thanks for the headsup!

I might go ahead and order from Walcott tomorrow so as to have the antenna for the run.

I just want to add that I have two Motorola FRS/GMRS** talkies that I can bring. So one of them could go to the person without a CB or 2M and the other to the Lead Rig (with a CB or 2M) - so as nobody is left out of the loop.

**I believe everybody thats driving a rig has a "license" right ---* ;).

That would be awesome actually. My parents are tagging along with me and my mom just got her ham license for search and rescue stuff in big bear. I bet she would love to be able to practice a bit with you guys.

146.520 it is then. 73.

Don't know if im going because we might head out and go for a 2 day trip instead and camp.

The only HAM radio shop i know that would have it would be HAM RADIO OUTLET> They have everything. Only draw back is their in Anaheim. If they ship it you , you get it in one day though since your in LA.

Trail Difficulty?
It says in the scanned photos above.

I talked to my USFS buddy. He said its nothing difficult. Its rated Least Difficult to moderate. I believe your rig should be just fine. Hell i ran through part of John Bull with my stock 80. This should be fine. Especially locked up front and rear.

Can't make this one. This would be three weekends in a row out and about between wheeling and scouts and my golf game can't handle that.
