You might talk with Luke @ 4x4Labs in Grass Valley. He was toying with a 300D conversion for 40s, but has other things like an old Stout, etc. At least he can give you some issues to look for.

Knixen,

I am not interested in winning a land speed contest, but the ability of finding parts, and not worrying about HG issues from the half cut engines, has me pondering about a possible conversion.

Unfortunately, if I pillage the MB for the engine, I will not have a DD. What Toyota, NA needs to do is to grow a pair and start bringing in diesel vehicles. The Hybrids dont do it for me. I believe Toyota's POV on 4x4 Hybrid is that they do not suggest taking it offroad. WTF, what is the point of having 4wd if you cannot take if offroad. For that, I would look for an AWD and be done with it.

I'm in the process of putting the om617 in my 90 crew cab. same as the 240d that you have with one more cylinder and a nice turbo. There have been a few put in - look at www.toyotadieselmadness.com - I bought the ott adapter to use a toyota divorce transfercase. It's a tight fit and requires cutting a little bit of the front.

I was thinking about putting in the cummins 4bt that I have, but that sucker is way to tall for the toyota trucks.

there also have been a few that used the vw turbo diesels that have been happy, I think acme makes a kit for that. there are lots of way to go, just a matter of time and money....

I think in every way you'd be better off going with a 3.4 gas swap. I'm a HUGE fan of diesel but in your application. unless you can do the fab work yourself or have it done cheap, it's not going to be economically viable to do the diesel swap. Unless of course the $ aren't the issue, which I completely understand. :)
