Changed the master cylinder last night, with a cheap auto zone unit (due to time constraints, and they had one in stock) used OEM gasket, but it is leaking out the bottom, between the two studs.

Is this a deformed booster?
Cheap master cylinder?
User error?

I torqued it down stightly tighter than spec (9ft lbs). Could I have warped the booster housing? It seems to pretty thin sheet.

Should I just upgrade now?

I have read and searched about the upgrade, but there seems to be differing schools of thought as to the actual parts to order.

Do all IFS 1986 and later have the much talked about V6 calipers with the 4 BIG pistons, or only 89+?

Alrighty, I figure since I haven't posted in a year, I might as well ask a bunch of questions to make up for lost time...

If it's leaking between the booster and the master, you got a bad master.... order a Toyota one, and when it shows up go return the "new" one. The V6 trucks (88+) had the bigger calipers I think, and in the early 90's there was a 1 inch master available... I think...???

Thanks

Thanks. I was hoping that wasn't it. I knew when I went I called Auto Zone, it was a bad idea. I was right in the middle of moving, so I thought I would bolt one up and be gone, but no such luck.

I will be ordering a new master tonight.

Thanks again.
