Not really, depends on the trails selected of course. The crazy thing about Moab is the "slickrock", which enables you to climb some bizarre stuff without lockers where normally you'd think you would need them.
Dry slick rock is super high traction (wettotally different issue)- for most medium trails up to maybe 5 -you generally do not need lockers - only in the usually cases where the ledges may have loose sand on them and they become hard to climb. Best to leave lockers off, because lockers on that high traction slickrock will twist rear axles splines- As it did to my truck -
The trail leader, Adam was driving an 80. He has posted a pic from the side of that obstacle.
It was pretty steep! Yup, we all gotta go as a crew.
I only know one thing about wheeling there - Follow your spotter!!
Both of those guys have lockers. www.marlincrawler.com 60 is a perfect candidate for dual cases.
In hindsight, I could have done that instead of upgrading the t-case gears with 3.0:1 for almost same
cost, and not had this damn whiny gear thing.
1000 miles, 16 hr drive, day down, day to install, day home. Good 3 day weekend. HaHa!
More, a fellow named Steve came by in a 60 powered by a 1HZ Turbo with 4x4Lab rear bumpers/sliders. Not a spot of rust on this thing, enough
to make ya sick! Since it has a 4x4Labs rear bumper, which is how I envisioned finishing the rear quarters on my bumper, but wasn't sure how it
would look and mount, I got a good look at it, and will finish it up like this with 1/4". Very clean, tight finish. If I hadn't decided to build my own, this it the ticket. Crappy iphone pics.
Some random, the '68 FJ40 is getting a head. All original, F 3 spd, daily driver for a fellow I SF. Beautiful, makes a guy sad to see
them all hacked/chopped and rusting away sometimes.
The FJ55 is kind of cool, it's got chevy 65" rear springs and they have pushed the inner wheel well back several inches to move the
axle back, bigger tires, and less overhang. Without the problem of altering the door. I like it
Georg is a great guy. Runs a great shop and its full! I arrived in time for BBQ, Texas Style! Wow!
I hope I convinced him to take the drive up to NW Expo. Anyhow, good day. I got a few more random pics, but the
cell phone leaves a lot to be desired. J
Hey y'all
I'm here for what might be a few more days. I'm going to Marlins shop today to visit. Haven't
been in 12 yrs or so. I'll get a few axle seals I think for personal stock. That being said, should
any of you need anything let me know. I'm here, and will bring something home for anyone
should they need. Be reasonable about size and weight, but I can usually manage.
My job looks like it's taking me up to Chilliwack, (yeah, I can't believe it either), so
my intention would be to send a package on home from there.
Jon
Can't believe I'm still here..BUT I got an email alert from Marlin today. Of course they are closed
on Fri. So I already sent a PM to SeaPotato, but I am sure I can find some time to grab a few
of these seals on Monday. So if anyone wants me to grab some let me know. J
Georg is a great guy, I enjoyed the time I spent with him and Jay while we were down there. He's a well respected guy and that title doesn't come easy in the high dollar LC business. If I ever win the lottery Georg will have to expand his business to keep up with demand!
