That definitely makes sense. Everyone I know with the VDJ7x that does serious off-road and towing upgrades the clutch right away. That is without mapping the motor too! With my mapped VDJ79, I upgraded the clutch as well as the standard map of my VDJ200.
Ah rly? Till now mine never made anny issues. My rusty flower bucket is sadly too old with too many kilometers that I would risk the higher hp on this engine. (And I think the lower hp plays also a role with having a kinda okish fuel consumption with bit under 13L/100km)

I should probably give some context. Both my VDJ200 and mapped VDJ79 see a LOT of off-road time. Most of it towing an off-road caravan, carrying loads to support other people, and then driving 8-12 hrs across sand, rocks, remote dirt tracks, cross axle ravines and so on in really rough areas. So being in 4-lo quite a bit while towing a load can be hard on a clutch. For us, it makes sense. My OEM clutch on the 200 still looked new when changed out, but given my wife was also going to be driving it off-road while I drive the 79, I knew I needed something that was going to take the abuse a bit better.

There are legal ways to bring it over as a temporary visitor to use during your travels. You might be able to bring it over permanently for use on private property only as well, but never register for use on US roads.
Otherwise, for most people importing vehicles that weren't sold here (including foreign models of vehicles sold here) you'd have to wait until the vehicle is 25 years old to import.
