Well Jynx.... since you will be visiting soonI do have 5.29 diffs ready as well as a transfer case set up with part time and lower gears.

Well, my current plan is to drop a Mark's Gear (same as Marlin) equipped t-case into Bruce and see where the wind blows me. Plan to pick up the case in a few weeks. Not sure when the install will be, but the great white 80 will be getting a pretty substantial overhaul in the next few months. Hoping to have it ready for some of the events later this year.
And then after I beat on him a while, should I decide I want to get stupid low, well then we will jump off that cliff and see how far it is to the bottom!

BTT, and not really about going slow but didn't see the need to start another thread since the peoples who have them are in this one already. @bhmmapping and @BamaPaul do either of you DD or use your manual converted 80 as a third vehicle. I am going to have to spend some $$ rebuilding an A440 or I could take that $$ and find an H55 and swap it into the truck. This truck will be a third rig, may end of being a daily in the winter months for me or momma so I am looking at it from the standpoint of real daily drive-ability, which is why I am looking more at the H55 instead of the H42. So 3FE to H55 to splitcase, modify trans crossmember. Will stay with 4.10s and won't have larger than a 285 on it. thoughts?
I drove my 80 daily. if I hadn't made the mistake of going to 37's I probably would have done the h55 swap and would still be driving it today. I really miss having the 3fe + manual trans. The hardest part of the swap for me was pulling the auto - I wouldn't even think about rebuilding the a440.

I'll be honest with you Jynx, all that we did at the Crawl woulda been MISERABLE in the mentioned setup. If you don't have a LOW low... and I mean so low that you won't stall... then you will wear out a starter. So if you follow through with this build... just make sure your intentions isn't to rock crawl the rig. Trail Ride, sure. But crawling... no sir. And the Crawl Box is never gone be built again for the application since there isn't any interest.
I DD mine about half the time I wish I had the h55 in it though just for the interstate. The setup is just about going to be perfect with an h55 and 35's but Eric is right about the low gears in the trails being too high. I have the 4.7:1 box and is perfect for a low range, I still stall every once in awhile but if I put both in low is no problem. If I had it to do over again I am with Matt, I would have stayed away from the 37's and maxed out at 35's saved up for an h55 and daily it forever.

Cool, thanks guys. This setup will not see much more than the gravel at the farm, maybe an occasional camping trip and for me or Erin to drive when the ice and snow shut things down. And just to clear things up for those whom I have confused.
We currently have 2 80s a white 91 and a two tone brown/tan 92.
The 92 has a bad trans, a crooked front bumper and peeling clear on the hood. This rig is the one I'm thinking of doing the h55 swap on. It will wear the ARB from the white truck and get some new shocks, spring spacers and 265s or 285s and will remain otherwise stock.
The 91 is the one I have owned for going on 6 years. The plan currently is to build it into a wheeler. It already has a FF swap out back, 5.29s, sliders and an aussie. I have a PT case with a Marks gear-set in it, 80 specific hubs, a full slee 4" kit and a 8274 cruisin' off-road front bumper that will all be going on it this winter I hope.
After talking it over with Eric over the weekend some, I am temped to try and find an 80 that is already pretty wore out and/or banged up to beat on since both my current rigs are in pretty good shape for their age. Riding in the 80 on Friday at SCC pretty well cemented my desire to build one, now I juse have to start actually doing it.
