main oil galley plug thread size.

lots of threads of people talking about tapping the old f and 2f blocks for the 84+ threaded oil galley plugs but I couldn't find a size listed. I have the plugs and 1/2npt and 1/2bsp tap but it's still not that easy to tell what one is correct. I'm pretty sure its 1/2BSP but I want to make sure.

So I dove in yesterday, after reading, and re-reading tons of posts on here. I will share my successful method, and add it to the pile:

It was time to adjust my valves, so I figured since I was in up to my elbows, why not fix the galley plug, too?

Total time was about 2.5 hours. That included removing a steel heater pipe against the firewall for drill clearance (and draining the radiator so as to not make a mess).

Everything went well, and I'm glad I did this! I feel way more confident about driving around in my truck after I pulled out the tiny, weeping, oil galley plug.

thanks for the reply but that thread is for the cyl head plug. I've done several of these already. That has been covered much more then the main oil galley plug. In 1984 Toyota decided to switch from a 24mm welch plug to a threaded plug. I wanted to put this rebuild together with the latest and greatest.

it is 1/2 BSPT. could you do a quality job with NPT? yes just be careful to only tap so far that you wont plug the main bearing feed
