Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a very neglected maggiolina from a friend. The only problem is that it wont open.

For starters the crank is long gone and one of tabs where the crank would fit in is broken. Most importantly, I believe the whole mechanism might be rusted together, though i'm not totally sure how the actual mechanism works.

Any ideas would really be appreciated.

Hmm, I think there's a Maggi vendor on here, maybe his name is [STRIKE]Hank[/STRIKE] Mike? I'm sure he'll post up.

As a brief former Maggi owner, my tips are:

WD-40 and a pair of needle-nose vise grips, to grab the remaining tab.

More details might help, like where the RTT has been, ect. IIRC the lift is a combination of screw-type mechanism that runs lengthwise, same side as the crank opening. The lid raises via 2 sissors style lifts, one on each side. HTH

edit: there's some pix on my FS thread that might help you visualize. The screw-type runs on the side where you see the ladder. https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/174720-maggiolina-adventure-large-fs.html

Good luck, and post pix when you get a chance.

Essentially it is a bicycle chain and two sprockets that allow both ends to raise and lower (one sprocket is attached to the crank end). If the chain has derailed you should be able to push one end of the Magg up high enough to get in and disassemble the interior panels enough to remove the chain from the other end and raise both ends. I had this happen to me once and other than taking some time wasn't a big deal to fix.

Otherwise you'll need to get a needle nose type vise grip on the crank. Or maybe a slightly undersized sacrificial deep socket and pound it home to get it raised so you can get in there to inspect the chain and sprockets.

...Mike S...same MikeS as on expo? Vendor for Maggi's? Awesome of you to lend your expertise!!!!! Gotta love mud/expo vendors.

Yep. I was hoping to hear a resolution to the man's problem.

Well, that sucked. I guess it's to be expected of someone's single post.

Especially since this can be fixed. I have the parts, too. Maybe he will come back and check his post?
