Hey all. Fairly new to MUD. Been reading a lot mostly. Well, last week I found the FJ40 I bought in Sept. leaks more oil than I thought. Ran it low and locked up the motor. My list of wants has just evaporated, and a new list of needs has taken its place. Now I'm looking for a reference for a machine shop to do a rebuild. Preferably one that's familiar with LC's. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Charles

Charles, welcome to MUD, TAC and Landcruisers. It's pretty costly to rebuild these things. Have you thought about buying a replacement used motor? If you look at the classifieds here on MUD, there are take out motors for sale all the time. Then freshen it up(head/valvejob,seals) and put it in. I found that to be a pretty good way to go. I do use a engine rebuilder in Parkville, MO. Not really a Toyota guy, but has done work for me.

Good luck

what year? i've got some donor 2f blocks in the garage if you need one. One is known great but torn down
would appreciate the room back in the shop and cost of acquisition would be a case of boulevard wheat (or more than a case if you want) Have a hoist and will help load it, head, pistons, etc.
PM me and i'd be more than happy to assist.

I am considering the used motor approach as well. I wanted to see what the difference would be in cost, because I just had to put $2000 in the wifes minivan. The motor is for a '76 mostly original FJ40 with only 63,xxx miles, so Ultimately I would want to put the original motor back in.

Ex - What's the name for the shop in Parkville?

Rob - Due to time constraints, I need an engine shop, or a machine shop that will do the dissassembly and reassembly for me. As For needing to work on LC's, it seems pretty straight forward to me. But, reading some posts on here, it seems there may be a few tricks that are atypical to your average engine build.

Thanks much for the quick responses.
Charles
