Chad.. I was wondering if you had pics of the underside of the lid. Looks good.

It looks basically like Henry's in the above pic.

The hinge is and tailgate are being worked on as we speak. Custom fenders have been made and mounted. I will have some updated pics in a few days when I get it all together.

The tool made for this operation is called a bead roller. They, of course, come in different sizes, according to how large of a panel you need to fabricate. http://www.tinmantech.com/html/beadsheetmetal.html

I welded two pieces, 1 1/4" by 1 1/4" angles and 3/8" plate into this chunk o steel to fill in the gap. Not only it helps cut down the "vertical" movement on the washboard road "ripple-effect", it also greatly reduce the "hoziontal" movement.

Yes, alot less clunky sound regardless of road condition. I had to reminded myself there is a trailer behind me!

Snook's solution is a very good one. The noise is only evident when running and rough roads / trails.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what you go with. I, too, plan to do a "shoe box lid" type of design, although on the side with the hinges, it may be necessary to omit the "lip" to avoid interference. ...

If you add a piece of angle as shown below you will eliminate the interference problem.
