Man I got to stop reading stuff on this site. Keep finding more stuff to put on my dreamin list.

I was looking at options to put on a M116 3/4 ton military trailer we have, really like the room in this tent. Looks great and thanks for posting the info. The setup surprised me in the video, how quick it went up with the one pull.

I thought I had better add more comments as we have used this trailer setup a bunch more this summer and we've had to adapt a few things.

The gap in between the base of the tent and the top edge on the front of the trailer was at first adjusted by re-locating the end of the support to the furthest hole in the stock bracket. I found this made little or no difference so I added additional layers of the foam tape that came with the unit to fill the gap.

Overall the quality of the fabric, PVC floors, the zippers, hardware and poles has been great, quite impressed with that.

Lighting setup inside the tent has been excellent. I used the LEDs and wired them to a 12v battery in the trailer. I leave them attached to the spanning pole that is removed before folding the tent up. t stats connected and packs inside the tent with the bedding so it is ready to use as soon as the tent is up.

The compression style locking mecanisms on the main centre poles have both started to slip whenever they are extended, it is like they are not designed for the weight of the tent. I spoke with Matt at Kakadu and tried his suggestions to firm them up but in the end I simply added a worm-style pipe clamp to each and I use these to help hold up the centre poles, no more slipping.

Here is a photo showing what I mean...

Hope this helps those considering a tent like this one.

I got a 200XT as well. I think...that I passed you last year in Quesnel when I did my BC roadtrip. I've had the same issues with the slipping poles, so I'm going to have to try the same thing.

Otherwise I agree, good quality and easy to set up. Just need to get some lighting on the interior and build a pull out kitchen.

Tent Setup

I really like the newer version they are coming out with for the military trailers. Wonder what the weight of just the tent setup will be?

Do you think the 200 is too big for the M101CDN or would the 150 be a better fit?
The have a sale on the 2011 model 200 tent now...

When you consider the models I learned that there are two key dimensions for matching the tent top to the trailer.
1. The length and width of the top will determine the overhang front and side
2. The height of the tent material from the floor/ground level to the bed base needs to match the height of the trailer from the ground to the top of the box. Within a few inches at least so that the tent sits straight and doesn't get pulled crooked when you peg it down to the ground.

If I remember right the model 150 is shorter and you need the model 200 or 250 to get the 42" height to match the M101 trailer. I see that the outer ridge 375 model has the extra height with the smaller bed base.

Let me know what you end up with and post a picture or two once you sort it out!

Ya, for sure...I will probably go the 375 route as I'm still working on fixing up the trailer and deciding on what height to have. It's just that with the sale on now the 2011 leftover 200 model will be hard to pass on at $1500, even though it sticks out a little more on the sides. I guess you just have to be careful with manouvering it in tight quarter, with trees and such not to snag the ends...
BTW if I haven't said so, I love your setup over a RTT!

Spent the day exchanging emails with Matt from Kakadu ( nice guy btw ) and if it wasn't for the shipping cost to get this package across the country being almost the same as the tent, I'ld be all over it. For any of you closer and want to go this route instead of a RTT this is definitely worth it at sale price. Plus for $1500 you get the 2011 tent (200) with the optional sunroom walls, tailgate piece and tarp style floor. That's wicked! If only shipping was $300 or less...Damn!

He's got 2 left!

Tent

No interior pictures yet, I can take some next trip and that should be in two weeks or so. Basically the mattress on top of the trailer is a queen size with an extra foot of width on the platform. The floor space is bigger than the sleep platform and easily accommodates a folding cot bunkbed either parallel or 90 deg to the bed. the cots stow on top of the mattress when packed up.

Their site has more info www.kakaducamping.com. I don't have any connection to these guys but I was quite impressed with their service. They came to my house to deliver and demonstrate the tent one evening, and the quality seems good so far.

Caanuck,

Well can you give us an update on the tent? I really like the design out it. I have a motorcycle camper tent on mine, but this one would fit much better.

Thanks
Gman

Gman,
the rig worked well for my family this past summer, including some lakeside "forest service recreation" site camping and a week and a half touring through the mountain parks on the eastern side of british columbia. I haven't had it leak in rain except through the screens onto the floor if the tent walls are not fully vertical. The only weakness in the design for the model I have (2012 bushranger 200) is the locking mechanisms for the main poles which I supplemented with gear hose clamps. I think the new model made for the military style trailers would be my choice if I did again today.

Would I choose the same style of setup from Kakadu camping if I had my time again? -yes

As proof of that the tent and trailer are currently with the moving company as I have moved with my family to Australia and although I didn't pay full fare for the move I went to bat to make sure the trailer was included in the package which wasn't cheap.

Hopes this passes as a review,

Eric

Caanuck,

Good luck with the move. I really like this tent setup. Hopefully I can pull the trigger on one of these pretty soon.

As far as the compression locks go on the clamps try some Velcro. I put some of he soft side Velcro from Home Despots on the inner flat used to compress the pole. So far it's worked great in my 200.

Model # 375

They have the 375 now for m101 trailer. Very nice setup. I'm seriously thinking about it now.

It's nice for the price, but I'm still 18' higher than what the tent is designed for. Site says for trailers up to 42" high and my Thule bars sit 60" off the ground. I've got a spring over and 33's on my M101CDN so it sits pretty high. Too high for a set up like this and not high enough for something like an ARB Simpson. :censor:
