Took off the rest of the tongue rails and all the wiring, lights, brake lines and started making the new tongue. I like pintles, have them on all my trailers, so this one got one. She's not going to be a light weight. When I get to the topper and rtt, they will be alum. keeping the weight down low.

Getting a little done on the tongue. Still need to buy a piece of plate steel to tie in all three at the front. I'm really thinking about just cutting the axle down for now and see how it works.

I compensate for crappy welds with lots of them. :)

Looking forward to more! Try cutting down the axle, you don't have much to lose and if it works, you get your narrowed axle setup for free!

yes indeed. Absolutely love that thing. I build a rack and mounted my rtt on top. ARB large anwing on one side and a smaller Tepui on the other. Has a sleeping platform inside for the wife and I and the kids are up top. Oh hell it's easier with pics. Here you go. The rack is not a permanent solution but it actually works well. Legs stabilize it during travel, then preposition and provides additional support when camping. I don't want to clutter your thread too much but if you want to see anything else just lemme know. Enjoy the build man. I know we sure have.

Hey there sir,

We met at Logans run last fall, I was the guy from Roanoke with Travis in the 03 100 series LC. Was planning on being at Relic this year but something came up. If you recall I was telling you I just got my M101A1 back from the guy I sold it to a few years back after quickly realizing the M1101 was gonna be way too big.

So my build is about done, just posted a thread on that yesterday, here is the link.

Hope you all are well, have fun at Relic

Here's where the cuts are going, 4 1/2" out on each side should tuck the tires under the body.

Never seen this before, grease is everywhere and the seal looks good.

Ordering new electric brakes with a parking brake and using my old hubs.

Just saw this, like the plates you tied the tongue in with, looks great!

On the axle-after you section it, spot weld it and then mount rims and string line the alignment, should get it close enough to track straight. Another thing would be to sleeve the inside with a tight fitting tube to hold it square...you’ll get it.

Thanks, I think I'm going to sleeve it with a inside tube and do some rosette welds for extra. If the sleeve is nice and tight it should make everything straight. At least that's what I'm thinking. :)

I cut the 4 1/2" out today and had a surprise., got to love military stuff (heavyduty). That tube wall is 1/2" thick and the flange extended into the tube making that first cut a solid one. I had to use two different weapons getting through it. Coming up with a plan, but need to chuck the flange in a lathe and square it up.

Wow! That’s some beefy axle stub, a bit more challenging to work with than I had imagined...

cut a step in that stub and stick it in the hole. I narrowed my fzj80 rear axle and flog it daily...

Exactly what we're going to do. Should work well.

Was going to suggest the same thing! Looking forward to seeing the plan come together.

Well here it is. My hot rod buddy turned it down and I welded it in (not pretty). I'm thinking it will work. I beveled them good and got a root weld down first and did a second pass. I had to freeze the spindle and heat the tube, but went in straight...

very cool pics and build Mike. I look forward to seeing it soon. Will shoot you a PM in a bit.

Nice! A bit of artistic feel, like that.

Yeah, getting fancy. Tomorrow I'll tackle the tongue jack.

Thanks for following along.
