Rear dust shields for our vehicles are insanely priced at over $700 a piece. That is 10 times higher than front dust covers.

They are located on the parking brake assembly parts diagram and are listed as parking brake backing plates. Still can not believe the cost. Even Japan imports are over $1K.

About to do rear wheel bearings and wanted to replace rusty dust shields as they require axle removal to swap out.

My only clue on the high cost is that they are sandwiched with the rear bearing assembly to the axle housing and are structural in the way and are attachment point for parking drum brakes. Still do not understand insane price.

On top of it aftermarket sources are scarce.

Indeed, these are not simply stamped parts. There's a bit more to them.

That Canadian discount is sure impressive, I did look hard and maybe my big mistake but endup grabbing last set of aftermarkets available from Amazon, $150 for a set.

Hmm…..That’s $72 each. Somehow I can’t imagine those being OEM quality? This is what the OEM parts site reads:

“The Parking Brake Plate Sub-Assembly Right Hand (#46503-60230), a crucial Drive-Chassis part within the Parking Brake & Cable system, serves a primary role of providing a secure foundation for the parking brake mechanism. It functions as an anchor point for other brake-related components and thus plays a critical role in the effective functioning of the parking brake system.”

That’s a Toyota part number, BTW.

I realize, calculated risk as I’m under time pressure, I always buy OEM parts but close inspection of the part shows Stamped sheet dust shield and HD steel Backing plate attached to it, close inspection of aftermarket part photos (see attached) shows just the above so risk worth taking. OEM dust shields are very prone to rusting and once they do they deform badly and rub against rotors so it is not perfect design to start with. How much worse can the aftermarket be - Im about to find out.

Toyota sheet metal parts like shields and under covers are always prone to rusting, I once replaced my rusted engine undercovers with OEM but after matting the surface gave new item 3 thin layers of black rust protection paint and they are still holding up like new.
