This community has been very helpful as I have been looking for a 200 series in the last few months. Have found a LX570 I am interested in, and have a few questions re: modifying LX570. Have read the numerous threads on LC vs LX, AHC, LX photo thread, and all else.

Would standard rock warriors and 285/70/17 KO2s fit under the Lexus wheel arches? Would this require an AHC lift, and if so, how does that work..? Will I be able to run the truck in AHC high, low, and "normal" with the larger tires? Assuming a possible AHC lift takes the place of a standard spacer as would be done on a LC200. Understand this is a basic question, but want a straightforward answer before committing to the LX.

If anyone has done the AHC lift, can you comment on the ride quality/difference?

Has anyone had any success removing the side steps? Electronics involved? Just the light? Know the process is a bit more complicated than the standard LC steps. Will be waiting on sliders... hopefully soon with the new thread asking for them blowing up.

Is there any difference in the roof rails, and would this require a Lexus-specific roof rack and system?

The LX will fit rock warriors and KO2's. It does not require an AHC lift for normal driving. You can run the truck in all settings with RW's and KO2's.

AHC lifts, while not required to run RW's, do not change the operation of the AHC. It still goes into low and high. However if you raise it by 1" it will be 1" higher in all positions, including low and high. It does not have any affect on ride quality. However, the normal disclaimer of getting an alignment after performing it is commonly suggested.

The side steps on LX's are actually also the rocker panels (the visible part normally referred to as a rocker panel anyway). Removal will result in an unfinished section under the doors. People have cut the factory steps off and made them look good. Look up @grinchy - believe he was the pioneer of that process. You will have to relocate the lights.

I don't know about the roof rails.

Thank you for the detailed response! Will be looking at @grinchy build...

Difference in rails between years? The LX rails are shorter than the LC and it is a popular swap to put on the LC rails for roof top boxes etc.

Interesting... will be putting ski rack, maybe a thule box up top. LC rails may help, but may also be completely unnecessary. Has anyone swapped LC black window trim onto a LX to replace the chrome? Is there a part number/easy way to buy the trim?

You don’t need LC rails for any of that. I have a ‘13 LX and use Yakama rail grab feet on the OEM LX rails with 66” round bars. I carry: skis, dip nets, double rocket boxes, bikes (when hauling >4), 17’ canoe,...

You should read the AHC Basics Thread: LX 570 AHC Basics

Also, there is a lot of discussion about sliders here as well. While it's been done, you will have to wait for a dependable supply chain. The LX is a niche model in a niche model market. Having said that, there are a lot more LX's roaming the US roads than LC's. I think it's taken a long time for the off-road community accept and adopt AHC as an alternative to an aftermarket lift. Time will tell.

Happy hunting!

Forgot to add the AHC lift link: AHC Lift

Lost of useful information regarding sensor lifting AHC.

I was very recently where you are. I reluctantly chose the LX over the LC due to the greater availability of good examples at a more reasonable price.

My preference based on looks, upgrades, tech and price was the LX subgoup of ‘13-‘15. The climate control is fast an amazingly powerful. The radio sounds good. To a non-audiophile it’s almost great. The seats are comfortable and very adjustable. My take (LC or LX) is the cupholders suck but BH3D has a solution.

The AHC, provided you’re going drive it as a car, is amazing! Many run 34” with absolutely minimal mods. 33’s fit with no mods, not even an AHC lift. AHC rides great, articulates well and handles a load. It is complex but on the 570 seems to be robust and reliable (less so on the 470). On-road handling is good. Rough surface driving is really quite good considering the fact the vehicle rolls down the interstate at 90 like a dream and handles adequately on backroads.

My point is the LX is a solid choice and to steal the phrase of another member it’s perhaps one of the most “no drama Llamas” available. I have been pleasantly surprised/impressed by the LX and am very happy to chosen one.

I am not saying they are necessary they are longer and will give a longer foot print. I also use that yakima rail rack as AK. However, on longer trips at highway speeds my 17' Kayaks could be more stable. I don't have far to travel and am on the highways. If I had further to go or poor road I would make the change to a greater span between load bars.

Great. Futher question... is it possible to replace the LX side steps with LC trim only? would require paint match, but would be interesting.

I doubt I will truly need sliders for the type of driving I will be doing, but hate the look of the LX steps.

Same. Enjoying mine so far. Much more than anticipated. My hunt for an LC/LX started after my wife got a GX and the Tacoma was starting to feel a little impotent. I feel like I moved to a better part of town! :)

Yup, LC rockers will mount up but they aren't cheap.

I have a 2015 LX570 with Rock Warriors and the LC rails. I live in Westchester but work in Jersey City. If you want to see it/drive it some time, just let me know.
