I asked the supplier of the foam and they said this:View attachment 4086144View attachment 4086144
The orange membrane is glued down and that is what attaches the speaker cone to the frame. The metal part floats so perhaps you just need to glue back down the orange membrane.
> You are beyond foam repair. That orange corrugated disc is the spider and it’s not supposed to be disconnected. It also looks ripped. Unfortunately you’ll have to replace this woofer. They don’t make the other parts you’ll need to rebuild it.
But others online with similar issues say things like
> Since the spider is glued to the cone/voice coil, gluing it where it is coming apart is the way to effect the repair.
It looks to me that I could just glue where it ripped. It doesn’t sound that bad, only noticeable for certain songs with a specific bass pitch, when loud enough. Otherwise can’t hear the rattle at all.
Maybe for now I will just leave it as is until it gets on my nerves. And attempt to glue with the rubber cement I received in the tinsel replacement kit.
By the way, replacing the tinsel on my subwoofer is went well. Gauge was too big so unbraided some of it to get it through the cone, soldered the connections and now there is no disconnected signal.
