Hey Guys,
Thought I would share this quick upgrade to the low beams. I bought this 1999 LX a couple months ago and have been disappointed with the low beam headlight output. The high beams are fine, but the lows suck. I have terrible night vision so I needed a quick upgrade. I did a lot of research and went with the Philips Xtreme Vision.
I installed one Xtreme in the Pass side headlight for comparison and took pics from different distances. It is a def improvement.

They're referenced as "squirrel finders" here on mud the most, and were used to help disperse the factory halogen light better. Pretty annoying once you put an HID bulb in. Many people cover them up or just do a complete retrofit. Everything you need to know about upgrading LX lights: LX Headlight Upgrade Database

so a legit retrofit will get rid of these? awesome!

what are the thought of a polycrabonate headlight lens and a mid to high end retrofit? one of my headlight lenses has a massive hole in it from what i assume is a rock, do i need to worry about souring an OEM headlight?

thanks for the link, i had already book marked that one a few hours ago, great resource there, thanks for putting that together!

also do you personally have any suggestions, we both got a 2000 so any mods or must haves coming from you would be a great help, i've had the thing for all of a week now, lol

A full retrofit would improve output and fullness tenfold while eliminating the squirrel finders as they are a part of the stock projector.

How bad is the chip/hole? If minor, I have done some lens repairs in the past by using an epoxy filler. Your 2000 lenses are glass, so I would strive to keep them if possible. I think 2003 was the year they introduced plastic lenses. Someone was selling some LX headlight housings in the classifieds that I'm sure you could buy one with a good lens off of.

The only headlight mod I can suggest is that you do a complete retrofit. While it is a substantial initial investment, it will pay off every single time you use your lights. My current setup blows away most newer vehicles stock lamps.

Sylvania was involved in a class action lawsuit over their claims that their "Super Star" bulbs were brighter. We are getting money from this claim. Don't fall for the headlight bulb hype. Go HID and don't look back.
