Reason for the horizontal mounting was to keep it from sticking up higher than the roof.

I will start on the 3x 20L Military Jerry can swing out in the next week or so.

Thanks Phil, I'm quite happy with it. Been a lot of work but well worth it now seeing it come to and end.

I was able to get it done for $700 all in for materials. The Jerry can carrier will maybe at $50 more in materials.

Nice job Jeremy. Interesting to note your dollars in material, factor in labour and it's easy to see why buying a bumper costs as much as it does. Not as much fun as building it yourself of course, again, nice job!

Thanks and yes I knew going into this it would be cheaper and faster to just buy one if I was charging myself labour. I do this stuff for the fun of it and being able to say I built it my self. Its also a lot easier to incorporate things that I like from all the different bumpers out there plus make a few things of my own.

The most time consuming part of course is just sitting there looking at something trying to make it work and look good I would say half of the 80+ hours I have into this is doing just that. I also had about $100 in materials I never used as included that into my total.

Moab here we come ! ??

I wish, I'm much further along the road to having a truck ready for it but that came at the cost of funds for said trip. I also want my wife to come along and May is a really hard time of year to get time off for her.

Its still on the list of must do trips though.

Looks like I have a slight low thump or viberation in the swing out/bumper some where. I think it maybe the latching end of it but its hard to tell. I can if pulled very hard get a slight forward and back movement at the latch end. I'm not sure if this is the issue or not though. When its latched its very tight and the tire will not move at all, I also see no movement in it when driving on rough roads when its making the noise.

I may need to put on a bumper to remove the slight forward back movement at the latch.

I'll keep you all updated, got to fix it on an FSR it would drive me nuts.

That swingout turned out nice. They can be a bit finicky to get set just right though... Tight enough not to move around, but not so tight that your wife can't open the latch. With little adjustments you should find the sweet spot.

Thanks Jason & Scott.

Jason I have mine quite tight already, I think I may have an exhaust issue. I took off a broken hanger last weekend that I broke wheeling the weekend before, I have a feeling its allowing the exhaust to hit something giving the low thud at an increasing rate. I will have to get under it and take a look, my back is causing me issues right now so will not be able to investigate for a bit.

Thanks!

Exhaust rattles can present themselves in weird ways for sure. Of course in mine they're usually a straight rattle caused by diesel shake goodness ;-)
