LX 470 Timing belt service info (archives read)

I had a Dodge Intrepid ES with a pretty sweet Mitsubishi interference engine. I broke the timing belt. It rattled like hell, I guess as the valves hit the pistons, but no damage. They replaced the belt and I drove it like 6 more years. Don't know.
 
Sometimes hearing 'timing belt broke' and what really happened are two different things. Bad sensor, skipped tooth, bad tensioner... hard to say. It's either interference or it's not. And with 4 cylinders on a bank two of them had to have either inlet or exhaust open.

My repair guy showed me the actual broken belt along with some some of the other parts that he changed as part of the 180K service. It was a Goodyear belt and I had the 90K service done at Goodyear. Not sure what else to say. I guess that I could have been ripped off by my dealer, but he has an excellent reputation and has been recommended to me independently by several knowledgeable buddies.
