I want to be able to have control over the transmission when I am in low range. When I put it in "2", I want my trans locked in 2nd gear. Is there a way to accomplish this while still having the trans shift normally when in High range?
Right. No "2nd" button. I wouldn't care if it shifted out of 2nd at higher speed as long as I could start in 2nd in low range. It's really annoying to have to amble around in low range at 2000rpm in 1st when I could be at 1200 rpm in 2nd.
When you put it in low the shift points change like you have the PWR button on. If you could override that so that it shifts in the normal RPM range, it would be easy to get it to up shift while in low. Is there any way to have a 7-pin mod for the ECT?

I think there is a way to make it shift like it is in high when it is in low range. I'll have to check on that. It would be a lot more tolerable. I have having to rev it up to 2500 rpm on flat ground to have it upshift when in low.
Seems that there is no way to add a 2nd gear start for my trans, but I can unplug a harness at the TC and make it shift like normal in low range thus stopping the harsh 1st-2nd shift.
It would lock it into second if he pushed the 2nd button and also shifted it into 2nd gear. Would start there and not shift until he shifted manually, either up or down into low. But this is all irrelevant if he doesn't have a 2nd button.

I bet if you looked underneath the shifter console the pigtail for 2nd gear start is there. Its probably similar to what Toyota does with the CDL pigtails in all post 92 trucks. If that doesn't work, I used to have a link to a Jeep site where a guy installed switches onto his trans solenoids, then he could lock it into 1st or 2nd. The cherokee XJ has a 1-2 selector position rather than 1 and 2, so this was his solution to get around it. If the pigtail isn't there let me know and I will try and get that link for you.
