"So this guy has been driving it everyday for 2 years with a shoestring for a throttle and a trans cooler as an auxiliary radiator? Man... I really need to study up to renew my redneck card, I am seriously an under achiever."
Oh Josh you are so funny. Where do you get the idea it is an Isusu? It says Toyota all over the place unless you are making another funny and I don't get it.

Look at the body on the crew cab, especially in the fenders.

I always liked my old isuzu pickups and troopers. they were just so basic :)

Also, after some digging on Craigslist I found his OTHER ad.

1992 Isuzu crew-cab

2L-TE turbo diesel

1985 Toyota Solid Axle frame

When is the last time you have seen a left hand drive, 4-door, 4x4, turbo diesel, mini truck?

This truck was assembled by Proffit's Cruisers of Austin, Colorado. The Isuzu crew cab body was mounted onto a 1985 Toyota extra cab chassis. The toyota frame was stretched 6", cab mounts and box mounts were custom fabricated. This is a very clean swap.

This Mini-truck is powered by the Toyota 2.4L turbo diesel motor. This is the highly sought after toyota diesel motor. This 2L-TE runs strong! It is all stock except aftermarket air filter and aftermarket valve cover breather. The glow plugs are on a separate relay and they work flawless.

There is a GM one-wire alternator on this Truck. Exhaust is 2" that ends under the cab. All the gauges work. Cooling is accomplished via Isuzu Montego oversized radiator and temperature controlled electric fan.

The axles have 4.10 gears, tires are 235/75R15, and has a 5-speed Toyota manual transmission. Clutch is new, both driveshafts are custom made, and transmission cross-member is low-profile.

This hybrid truck is super tight, brakes are spot on, transmission shifts perfect, and there are no rattles, or sketchy driving characteristics. Bumpers are both custom and very strong.

MILEAGE IS 28-30 MPG!!!!

Driver's side door is sticky, no radio, seats are pretty basic, body is dented in a few spots, cab doesn't have a headliner.

The total cost to mount body and do the 2L-TE swap was $5613.45. That does not include the cost of the 2L-TE ($2000) and rust free running gear ($1000)

I HAVE THE FOLLOWING PARTS AVAILABLE.

-E-LOCKER AND V6 SPOOL 5.29

-86 TURBO TRANNY

-MARLIN HYSTEER KIT

-86 & NEWER WIDE REAR AXLE

-IFS BOX

Will take trades. Let me know what you have and I may consider it. Prefer Diesel's

I would Really REALLY like something like this, but I think I would be better off getting a little econobox fwd. the cost of this, plus getting it down from where it is at (I could almost throw a rock and hit canada eh.) makes me thing I would never save enough in fuel to recoupe it.... plus the body is kinda beat. unless he would take the V-Strom in trade.....

Naw. I would rather a single cab or an extended cab, but I LIKE the thought of a small truck with a turbo diesel. You know I have been shopping the small cars for a while, but if I could find a decently priced small diesel truck, or maybe even a VW Caddy with a turbo diesel I think I would enjoy that more than a econobox, and still probably get 30 or so MPG.

I am looking at vw tdi's. I talk my wife into letting me swap one in and get a small camp to pull to moab. I told her it will pay for itself in the long run. I would rather keep dumping money into this thing than take up a payment on a tow rig. I really don't want to tow with the avalance either. Stay tuned for the upcoming chevy spring swap!...also need to find a strong clutch.

:hhmm:U B doin what?

Ryan, have you ever talked to anyone who has swapped the 1.9td into a toyota? I would be worried that the EGT's on a diesel that small would skyrocket when trying to tow anything. In my mind you are taking an engine built to move a fairly aerodynamic small car, putting it into a brick shaped 4x4 suv thats probably 1000 pounds heavier than the donor car, then tacking another 1500-2000 pounds on behind that. If you load it up heavy enough I dont know how much better economy you would get than the 22r, because diesels are only super freakishly efficient under light loads because without the trottle plate there are less pumping losses than in a gasoline engine. plus you have to consider if with your gearing if the TDI can spin up that high (I think TDI's are pretty rev happy for a diesel though so you may be safe)

P.S. I would love to be proved wrong on this.

The towing capacity of a VW TDi is higher than that of a 4Runner to start. With my gearing, I should be able to run 70 with 2100rpm which is a little under midway for what these motors can turn. I was reading online where a guy was getting 30-32mpg after swapping in a 1.6tdi. They are little monsters with a chip and opened up. Remember, in Germany, you tow with whatever you have and these are popular for towing. It is very rare for anyone to own a pickup there. The big concern after swapping this motor and adding chevy springs would be brakes and clutch. Although I already have the bigger calipers and master cylinder which I believed up the towing capacity of the later 1st gen runners.

coure there is always USAF air freight:)

I want the 1.9. I plan on chipping it, etc. There is a place that tunes them up in moline that can make a lot of 'reliable' power and torque with them. They aren't cheap. I hope to do the swap over the winter if I can find something by then. I am selling my bike to get one but that is slow....damn economy. After I get it installed and get a LIGHT Camper (maybe a casita or similar) because I want to include the family more, I plan on talking her into getting another bike.

I am using my phone and for some reason it sometimes takes er's and ed's off the end of words, but only on this website.

looking for an afn motor up to 1998. After that, they have an immobilizer system which is hard to work around without keeping original cluster, etc. I plan on getting an acme kit. Like I said, it will probably be next spring before I get this going. Just researching right now and looking for deals. My dad is trying to talk me into a 4bt, but I like the aftermarket on the tdi's.

wt 4BT appx 700

TDi appx 265

at least that is what the net says

that's been brought up too. The tdi seems like a better option the more I read. He thinks that it's too little power to be worth the swap. However, it produces more torque at idle than I can make at trail rpms and it's efficiency will cut travel costs in half if get anything like they say I will mileage wise. The added bonus of a turbo whistling down a trail is alone worth the money.

Easier? Can't say. The TDI swap seems pretty easy with the Acme kit. I want to go diesel so there is going to be a little work involve regardless of engine. Also, it is much less common to find a 2L-TE in the us. Aftermarket is likely better for the TDI. The TDI has better low end torque.

I don't really know if it is more proven either. Yes 2L-TE's come in Toyota's abroad, but I may have an issue finding parts stateside. I've been looking at TDI's for a long time and wishing for one. Now I am going to focus on getting one in order to make longer trips more pleasent by allowing me to cut fuel costs, pull a light camper, and make the overall ride more enjoyable (might even go back to air conditioning).

If I had a Toyota diesel already or had one given to me, that would be the obvious swap. Instead, I just have to find something that is more readily available.

oooohhh iccccc well i wish i could get some of these tdi hulix and landcruisers that run around here all day over to the states , it just pisses me off how we cant have these in the states for some reason .. y ?? are they too good ? thats what i think

Jon.,buy one take it apart and ship it buy ups:hhmm:

At least get ahold of an engine and pack it into a connex.
