Lost 2qts of oil in 1,000 miles... Just switched to Synth..

My engine was on Mobil 1 prior to losing oil with the Schaeffer's. Also did a double AutoRx treatment before the switch. No gunk in there...

Even if you did clog a filter, that gunk merely displaced oil out of the filter and into the crankcase.

If the level of a supposedly closed system drops, it is because something came out...not merely went somewhere else in the closed system.

so your filter stays completely full of oil when the engine is off and you are checking the level?
1. a dirty filter is not dry dirt, it is soaked with oil
2. dirty oil also burns more readily

I used Castrol syn in a Mustang GT and it used it right up. Switched to Amsoil and did not see a drop in the oil level. Perhaps a different synthetic for sonoranfun

If your filter is empty you might want to change brands to something with a working ADBV.

I have found Motorcraft FL-400S stay completely full - even overnight.
