My co-worker is selling a low miles 2005 LX470 for a great price and I am debating on buying it. If I do I would be selling my GX470

I have owned many 4wds including Monteros, and a 2011 LX570 :) (my build thread is somewhere on here) but had a few questions on regarding the 100 series.

I am aware of most of what's needed to baseline it. It drives well, AHC works. The only thing that is happening is the CDL light does not go on all the time. I believe its linked to this part Center Diff Light Fix - My Experience - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/center-diff-light-fix-my-experience.878070/ but wanted to pick everyones brain.

Currently pushing the CDL button will not trigger the CDL icon on the dash most of the time, and when it does VSC trac and VSC off both come on. When I push the CDL button to disengage, the CDL light turns off however VSC trac and VSC off stay on until I turn off the truck and turn it back on.

This truck has never been off-road let alone put into 4 low so I assume its just stuck and the sensor I linked above should be replaced.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Also he states there is water ingress by the cabin air filter housing when it rains, I assume clogged sun roof drains.

Hello chriscosta416,
Here's one thread on the leaking cabin air filter housing.

I'm sure there's other threads on the same subject, along with videos on YouTube.
I believe there's also at least 1 video that shows how to retrofit / install cabin air filters into a 100 Series Land Cruiser that doesn't currently have them, which will show you how to remove the front panel of the housing to access the cooler packing.
I believe all LX470s came with cabin air filters, but some Land Cruisers did not.

You just need to replace the cooler packing, it's the seal at the bottom of the housing that holds the cabin air filters.
I do this on about 50% of the 100 series SUVs that I service.

While you're in there, use / buy a long skinny ShopVac attachment and clean out the dirt / leaves / etc. that are in the bottom of the housing.

As for LX470 vs GX470, it depends on personal preference and how important speed / power is to you.
I have a 2007 GX (VVT-i / 270 hp) and a 2003 LX (Non-VVT-i / 235 hp).
My GX, with more power and less weight is much more nimble / responsive (and to some more enjoyable to drive...) than my LX.

If you have a 2005 - 2009 GX (VVT-i) and are considering a 2005 Land Cruiser (non-VVT-i), I'd test drive the LX470 and make sure you enjoy it.
My 2 cents...

Enjoy.
Tom

What are your end goals with your vehicle, are you looking to build a solid off roader / camping rig or do you typically just daily drive / dirt road cruising?

I've got a 100 series and a GX470...The 470 is the best handling / running / riding vehicle I've ever owned BUT I would still pick the 100 series any day over the 470 for an off road build...

>> CDL diagnosing, I'm not a lot of help here but I do know there are a bunch of people, myself included, who just needed to swap the sensor. When you press the button, do you hear the transfer case lock up or does it not even seem to be locking ? This will help determine if its just the light or something mechanical

>> Water ingress, ouch. Could be sunroof drain but could also be windshield .....

If I were you I'd make sense of the goals for the vehicle and also compare rust and maintenance between the two and of course cost VS straight trade .... the 470 is a sweet ride , don't give it up so easily

Checking drains is always good. But likely it's the windshield or windshield moldings that use rivets that are incorrectly installed. (I am assuming this truck has had the windshield replaced in its life.)
