hi there i have owned my 4runner since about April of 14 and have been dreaming of a diesel engine since the day i bought it. i have a 22re with a 5spd, locking hubs, ifs, 4.10 gears and 31" tires. my main reason for wanting diesel is the economy gain (a bit more power would be nice to.) I was thinking about using a 2l-te but they are a bit hard to come by. If anybody has any suggestions i would love to here from you, and anybody in northern co that has done this id love to see your rig.

The photo has the sad little spare that i pulled out when i blew a tire after owning it for about 2 weeks it has since then been replaced with a full 31 and will be mounted on a swing out when i have the time to do it.

My advice, not ever having done this:

Even if the engine was sitting in your garage now and you got it for free, you will never get your money back. Do the math. True that they typically get a little better gas mileage, but diesel fuel is more expensive, so the savings is a wash.

That truck looks kinda rough for a swap candidate.

KLF you sure you've never done this?lol

Seriously KLF is right.Don't do for resale value or ever expect to get your money or time back! But if you want your rig to go further last longer and be simpler then do it.Toyota diesels are harder to get parts for,so if its your daily with no backup that can become an issue. But there are other diesel options.Mercedes diesel om617 is a good choice, there are adapters available to mate to your toyota trans. There are lots of em in the US so parts won't be hard to get. Also vw diesels have been used in toyotas with good results, there is a kit for it too.

Mercedes om617. Don't do it for financial gains. You will never break even.
