@pingwrx , FWIW, looks like it's probably closer to 40 min, but happy to help if it's not too far for him

He's going to contact some of the auto shops noted above since they're closer, and if they don't work out we'll contact you. Once again THANK YOU very much for your generous offer! šŸ™

A vote of confidence for Javier's shop. Honest and know Cruiser's inside out.

My son took his vehicle to Javier’s shop, and the experience was completely unacceptable. The staff was rude, dismissive, and outright unprofessional from the start. The pricing was outrageous—$600 for a rear brake job is excessive by any standard. Even worse, they argued with my son about his own car and treated him with blatant disrespect, going so far as to ridicule him and make him feel stupid.

They then tried to push additional work, claiming the vehicle needed ball joints replaced before they would do anything, and quoted an absurd $3,800. It felt dishonest and predatory. Thankfully, he took his LX470 elsewhere for a rear brake job and alignment where he received straightforward, service he requested.

Based on this experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid Javier’s shop.

Can anybody recommend a good Toyota mechanic in Houston TX area? My son just moved to Houston with his 2000 LX470 and is needing some repairs, from simple oil change to suspension repair. He lives west of downtown, on Dunvale Road.

Thank you in advance.

I know this may be late. While in the Houston area, my number one (yes, they are that good and work mostly on LC’s) would be Houston Mechanic Center. As an alternative, maybe Duggy’s if you are okay with paying $$$ for a near overhaul recommendation.

This is why I joined ih8mud, to many ridiculous quotes from repair shops among other issues, 5 hours at $150 for a job I did in one hour with no experience is one of them. I have been tackling most repairs myself. So far I have sucessfully replaced my fuel sending unit, low pressure power steering hoses and reservoir, brakes, and countless other things that required diagnosis. Even oil changes I have begun to do myself. I couldn't have done some without the help of this forum. Unfortunately, in these times you need to tackle as many things yourself. Finding a reasonable and honest shop that you can trust is getting more and more difficult.

Sorry for the rant 😬
