update: I got a 1966 factory soft top from Idaho. bone stock with bias ply tubed tires that are god knows how old and 72000 miles on the odo which might even be real. had to meet the trucker in wenatchee and drive it 200 miles home. it ran great but the carb leaks and so does the heater. otherwise it is shockingly solid and the frame is great.

the dollar at par is a wonderful thing.

Nice rig. I bet it was a lot less than the 40 just posted on BC4x4. So, did you find here on MUD or were you surfing Craigslists and ebay postings across the central drylands?

you mean the 74 you posted on? different kettle of fish completely and not a bad deal for what you get. this one was bought out of the mud classified and was a good deal for what i wanted which is a solid stock resto candidate.

I really like it Semlin.. that is exactly what I would want.

Great for a rusto. Although it looks really clean. How is the top?

Any idea if you want to keep the gas engine or go with a diesel? I think a restored truck like that with a 1HZ engine would be the cats ass

Another.... what is different with the doors? I know nothing about 40's...other than I am sure I need one.

Nope. This one just posted on BC4x4 this afternoon: '73 FJ40 for sale - BB.BC4x4.COM

what is a rusto ? :flipoff2: :grinpimp:

the top needs zippers and new plastic. I have a tarp guy who can do it.

no diesels for the 40. the f motor runs and sounds great :D

those are canvas panelled soft doors. they lack side impact beams ;)

btw, did that 40 series firewall you found have any dash knobs on it? I need a couple ;)

that was the one i meant. it is a semi built truck with good paint. I paid a lot less than that but I could not get my truck in that condition for the price he is asking. luckily, I am not looking to get it into that condition.

Too many nice 40s around at decent prices and I can't keep track of them all. Too bad SWMBO would never go for one as her DD and my weekend Toy.

Rusto definition;

a) to repair a rusty cruiser to non rust status.

b) to prevent rust with the use of rust prohibitors and paint products....hence "rusto".

Silly gasser boy...

Love the doors. Side impact is for pussies.

Talk to me about what switches you need. I only want the lighting ones for my MOT foggies. The rest is redneck fun in my yard.

not sure what year yours was. i need a small pull switch, a medium cable pull switch that can either be blank or have an "H" on it, and a fullsize pull switch that says "FD" on it.

martin is your 66 a canadian model or a us import?

I really don't know much about the history of mine. I suspect it might be a US import because the model year in the papers is out to lunch. The guy I bought it from drove it in the early 80's. It was beaten, flopped on its side, engine swapped, and then parked in a wood shed. The last plates on it were from 1984. I bought it in fall 2001 for cheap. Mine wasn't as clean and complete as yours so it wasn't really a restoration candidate, but I tried to stay with the theme.

Anyways, with all the JDM trucks coming in and the general disregard for the vintage gas trucks lately, it's very nice to see someone bring in an early 40.
