thought i'd just ask here in case. been looking for a while but stupidly never thought of asking you guys. i'm in the okanagan but will travel.

i'm looking for a bone stock original condition truck with a solid original tub and preferably a pre75 as i like overhead wipers, don't like ambulance doors and it is not going to get built and will be a fishing rig. I can live with a couple of perforations but no serious cancer. i am not prepared to buck up for a truck that is alreayd restored...

and yes i know it's not an easy order to fill. i have looked at quite a few local cruisers and as a result I am looking mostly well south of here.... did anyone else look at the one in pitt meadows for $5000 where the farmer had hand cut and booger welded complete new frame rails from just behind the t-case? nice guy but wow.

i looked at the one on craigs list ( green 1972 ) but as it has a aluminum tub it probably wont be what you want , fellow did some nice things too it like disk brakes , it has 80,000 original miles on it it was a us import .

i got photos and passed based on the tub. he wants a lot for it imho. how did it look in person?

not like what he wanted for it , he had done alot of the mechanicals but it did just not look like a $6500 truck , i did get from the several emails from him that he would take less but i didnt feel it was worth even going there as i would think my offer would have been at least half of what he was asking .

did you see that there are 2 bj 40's up on craigs list for $2500 .

interesting. i can only assume they would be complete trash. anyone who owns 2 bj40s in halfway decent shape would know they are worth something, but then again, isn't a 1982 a bj42??

I think BJ40's had a "B" diesel, BJ42's had a "3B" diesel. There are other differences as well, but that was one.
GG

enough 3b powered things come up for parts enough that a BJ40 could be "upgraded" if you wanted. The B would not be enough for me to not want it. Ah the double negative :) meaning I would like a BJ40.

Semlin what about getting a NZ import? Seen some really nice ones posted lately. Good cruiser for the dollar.

You know that honk/crushers fight? I actually had a good look at that cruiser and really wanted it. Wrong timing for me. But I was in love with that cruiser. Even had 24 volt outputs to use it as an aircraft ground power. It was sold around 13k. Great truck.

Most of the CND 40's are way over priced. Even the gassers. Good if you own one and want to sell, bad if your in the market.

I would look at the article in the latest Toyota Trails about the guy finding rust free 42s and 47s in Austrailia for 1000- 2000bucks add 2500 on that for RO&RO shipping and brokerage fees ,man there are alot of pos40s out here in the lower mainland

lots of worn out rigs in oz too.... Just not rusty, or as rusty.

The NZ ones seem not too bad. But like all things, there are corrupt people trying to make a buck out there.

Sounds like a perfect trip to me, buy a cruiser, tour the country and ship it home.

do all owners of older original condition cruisers have delusions?

i looked at one in kelowna on the weekend for $5500 asking

cracked fibreglass fenders, welded floors and every panel rusted under a hand brushed paint job and the frame cracked in two places and rotted so bad bits broke off in my hand.

there was also another one for $5900 that looked worse so i didn't even bother.

I've got a customers Cuiser here. Life has dealt the owner a plate of crap so he's looking to sell his Cruiser. This is his pride and joy. 1974 decent solid body, soft top, SOA, small 32 to 33"ish tires, V8 Chev motor, needs a bit of carb work, recent clutch, new cam, recent list of misc parts, new rear leafs, winch, wipers up top, old style doors with vent windows, white spoke rims (16x7"), 4 speed trans, winch bumper with small guard, needs some love but it overall it's a really nice Cruiser.
$5000 obo, no low ball crap offers please. I'm trying to help this out as much as I can.
I'll post pics Tuesday
please contact me off list is you have any other questions.

steve

thanks, i'd love to see the pics. a v8/soa is not my first choice but for the right body i am in.

pic for ya
I have more

the waves on the rear quarter are from previous body work

FJ40 for sale.webp

Steve

It looks pretty good. i would want to know what love it needs, does it have the original lower tailgate and where is the rust or bondo?

but before you go to the trouble of answering I will have to ponder it. I really want a stocker and it seems a waste to pull a perfectly good sbc and suspension. I will call you at the shop if i decide to go for it. know anyone who would want to swap motors? I will throw in the chevrolet logo :D

That looks pretty good compared to the other 40s for 5 grand that looks like an 8 grand truck because of the no rust and lack of bondo 2 thumbs up
