I have1986 hj60 trying to buy a alternator for a while had someone send me one it didnt work i was told mine could not be rebulit is there any other way to go with aftermarket alternator thanks for the help

Send a PM to We-Cruz, he is parting out a 1982 BJ42 with a 24v alternator. I'm surprised you can't rebuild yours. Does it have the vacuum pump on the back (I assume you have a 2H motor?)

Most alternators can be rebuilt. Take it to a shop which does marine or industrial alternators. If you don't want to go that route, you can try G&S Cruisers, 4Wheel Auto, Radd Cruisers, Rocky Mountain Imports, etc., etc.

You can also buy 24V alternators on-line. They will not likely have a vacuum pump or the means to put one one. This will yrequire you to buy an electric 24V vacuum pump. If it was me, I would see about getting it rebuilt.

bj has alot smaller alternator than hj's, so it might not be the best choice...

ps. from my experience 95% of alternators can be fixed just by replacing brushes and regulator...

The 12H-T has two choices in alternators...the bigger body fits without an AC compressor in place, but the smaller body fits when there's an AC compressor installed. Found this out during my swap. I have the small body one, and Sheldon can probably correct me if I'm wrong, I thought that the front housing and pulley were the only parts specific to the engine...I could have used the internals and back housing from a BJ. Sheldon was the one that researched this...so I'm a bit foggy on it.

The route I went was to have a local rebuilder rebuild my alternator and make it high output compared to the 30-40A that the OEM diesel alternators put out.

There are also internal and external regulator versions...

Right...I forgot about that. But a rebuilder should also be able to make it one or the other. Mine was made into an internally regulated model when it was rebuilt.

We have 3 different Reman 2H/12H-T Alternators on the shelf.
24v 50amp Ext Reg
24v 50amp IC Reg short vac pump shaft
24v 50amp IC Reg long vac pump shaft

If you are not able to bring your Alt by then I would at least need some pics to help ID it.

Here are a few pictures of the alternator. If you need different or better pictures, please let me know. I live in Massachusetts, so we'd have to work out shipping.

Looks like we do. Reman 27040-68030
2H/12H-T Alt 24v 50a IC reg
Short vac pump shaft.
Larger body, 4 bolts holding the 2 halves of the Alt body together.
Have to get a core back.

Shipping to US is no problem, we ship out of Sumas WA to US customers once a week.
So no customs issues or paperwork.

Shoot me an email to info@gscruiserparts.com and I can work out some rates for getting it to
Mass.
