This is my first post so please be gentle, I am planning on repowering my 1970 land rover with the toyota 22r there are many reasons for this that I'm sure most of you would agree with the thing is that I have a set of axles from a 94 fj80 and I'm not sure what the right combination of manual gearbox and transfercase will work with this motor and the ofset rear axle. I am lucky enough to have friends that are exeptional fabricators and 4x4 builders that are going to help me with the project but I really need answers to the drive train any suggestions will be greatly appreciated . I also have an extra fj80 front that is complete exept of course for the third and calipers member I'll let it go cheap or in trade towards parts that I need which at this time is everything from motor to tranfercase.
thanks

You will not find much help here, it seems. I have many parts you are looking for. The 22r, trans and t-case are easy but the 80 is not centered in the rear as the Toy pick-up is. I have axles, 3rds and calipers. I have Rover Buddies as well. Which Series and wheelbase?
Thanks, Jeff 530-219-5801

its a series 2a 88" Thanks for the reply I plan on extending the wheel base a bit to 90 or so mainly due to the axle width, I sourced the Fj axles becouse I wanted the strogest toy axles I could get as well as needing the rear to be ofset for the rover transfercase But as the project went along I realized that the landy's drive train was just to expensive to maintain for what you get in power and reliability, and I really want to keep things light so the toyota 22r seems perfect for this rig. I don't have the coin to go nv4500 and atlas or somthing like that maybe in the future so I had hoped there would be an option of toyota parts that I could source and if need be modify anyway I'll give ya call and BS you some I'm cramping up on this damn keyboard

You can probably get away using the 80 series rear axle, as it is not offset that far. The advantage is you get to keep the rear disc brakes (it is likely that you have them since you have a 94 set of axles). As far as axle strength in the rear, the 80 axle and mini truck axle are similar in strength at the axle. The ring and pinion on the Cruiser is stronger than the mini. But a mini would give you a centered rear axle.
