Sounds good bring it over early Sat. morning & we will get to work. 8-9am.

Have you contacted Doc yet....prepare for camping in cold. Doc says he has a tent for you all to use but I would reconfirm.

Anyone game to help this weekend???

sounds like a plan, though beer at 8am is gonna leave a mark:beer:

Haven't contacted Doc yet, I'll call him in am, though I have a 2-3 man tent (not very warm though!)...

Got some directions to your place!...can't remember details of how to get there.

Call me tomarrow on cell, if I dont answer leave message & I will call you back. Oh yea where are you coming from?

Lakeland...

I've been reading on MUD, and it seems one option is to only change the bearings on the front differential and avoid a big mess...The problem with my front diff is a lot of play in the pinion and I guess if we pull the bearings and they're shot, we may just need to put new ones in (got some new from toyota and some from the 3rd member I got from MUD), then we may have more time to sit around and take a beer brake!

Sani, if we are changing the full diff out, one diff for another thats fine but chaging beraings its begining to get into setting a full diff up,preload, pinion load-ect. Changing one diff for another is not a big deal but if your wanting to change the bearings in you diff I have no clue whats involved or feel comforable since I have never done this.

If the diff you got off mud matches your rear diff it should be fine...did the owner say it was good when they removed it?

He said it's fine, but sent it with the pinion flange and nut dissasembled...so the preload is not set (I guess!)...what we can do is mark the nut on the old differential, then undo it, change the bearings and just tighten it so the marks match again...

Apparently not, replacing the bearings requires re-adjusting the preload!! I'm gonna go out and look at that 3rd again.

It's gonna suck #%*$# if this does not work!

Installing a pinion seal is no biggie but when getting into the diff & start chaging bearings internally thats the part I have no clue-pinion seal done a couple!

No internal bearing work. But if we remove the seal, we're right on the pinion bearings and that should not be a problem to replace....The only issue would be torquing the nut correctly..I think....I'm just confused.

Worse case, we just replace my old differential I had on the rear in it's place...It had a little slack, but should not be a problem at low speed in the front...

what do ya think?

How do I accomplish this? no leaks from the front pinion seal... Already have replaced the seal once but still leaking:frown: If it takes that special Mississippi touch then we could stay up all night and try fixin' it next Wednesday night when on the way to Texas:bounce:

Sorry about the seal trouble. Did it leak again right away or after some driving? My rear pinior brearing was shot and because of the play, the seal never lasted and broke everytime I drove, and thus the above mentioned project!

BUY A LIFT BEFORE THE EVENT-4" & HAVE FUN!
