Hey folks!

I was wondering if anyone could provide a photo of their engine to battery ground cable and its mounting location? The EWD does not make it easy, it looks like its toward the rear right (if looking at engine from front of car) but I can't see where on my engine that would be. The PO thought it would be great to only ground the battery through the chassis (somehow it still starts fine, just not when cold) when he converted it from 24v start to 12v and my voltmeter is bouncing at idle and I want to bang this potential cause out before I hunt any deeper

Thanks!

Both of mine (hdj81 dual battery) were in front of the engine mount. I converted to 12v start and switched out original cables so can't really give you a proper pic.

Edit to add if you need I can take a pic of the ground mounting location but I don't have exact original routing with the cables.

That would be awesome!! I don't need the original routing as I'll have to buy my own cables anyway. Your routing will probably be more relevant anyway given we have the same (or similar) conversion

Here I pulled the engine real quick to show you

His pics are perfect, I tried to get some but the right side was very difficult to get a pic of. With the 24v start both batteries need to ground to engine, with my 12v conversion I'm only grounding on LH side since that's my starter battery.

Hahaha thank you!! So there's two? I guess for the dual battery system? Interesting. I'm thinking I'll just run a very large gauge wire from that injection pump side one if I can get to it
Yes, one ground to engine for each battery in the stock dual battery system. Also on the RHS battery, there is a smaller secondary ground wire also coming from the negative terminal that connects to the fender. I'm not an electrical wizard and I don't know what that does though. Maybe that ensures that the whole body is grounded to the engine block?

Thanks Ikarus, and yeah that's exactly it, many of the smaller electrical systems ground to the body of the truck, like interior lights, door open detector switches, etc
