I am getting ready to install a lift and new tires on my 80 and I'm going to regear to 4.88's. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a local shop and also what kind of price should I be expecting to pay? I'm located in the Jackson area.

Kurt at cruiseroutfitters would be my first choice. Jackson Powertrain can do it. I really like them but they haven't been as detail oriented as I'd prefer on work they have done for me in the past.

I have a red '97 fzj80 stock other than running 285's. No lockers unfortunately. I have owned it for about 18 months and I'm just getting started with the modifications. I plan on keeping it fairly mild as this is still my DD and currently don't have time for much wheelin'. I'll post pics when I get started.

you got the two best shops advised... pick your poisens... but I'd go ahead and throw and ARB locker in the front and an Aussie in the rear while they're up there getting gears. I realize it's expensive parts but it'll be more expensive when you decide to pull them again to do it...

Pm me if u want and I can give u a good ball park for front and rear arb lockers and gears front and rear. If ur not ready to do both gears and lockers.....I would wait till you are....IMO.
It is a real good idea to Regear and lock it up at the same time. I would at least do an Aussie locker in the rear. I ran stock gearing with 315x75r16s. I really didn't need gears till I hit the wide 36s. But I prefer to crawl ..

Try to strike a deal on the other end if you plan on shipping them. These things are HEAVY and they cost anywhere from $50-80 EACH one-way to ship them.
If you are good enough of a mechanic to pull the 3rds, I have a local guy that everyone here knows (Pat Holland, yellow buggy), he lives in Brandon and will regear anything you have. He is good and will save you a lot of $$ versus shipping out.
Agree with Lenny, at least get a rear locker in there while you are at it. With no inspection covers, it is a bit more involved to do after the fact than a 60 or 40.
