Woody,
Thanks for the invite to ride biotch a few days back. I have to attend a business event Saturday the 10th that I can't miss. I signed on to that some time back and it didn't show up on my radar when we spoke. I am bummed to say the least. I was pretty pumped for the drive out and to wheel with this crew.

This business thing keeps getting in my way!

Have a great trip and I hope I can hit toys for tots and wheel a bit then.

All the best and thanks again!
Goebs

Thank you...Thank you...Thank you...
I just can't wait to be there!!!

(Woody, are you seeing a therapist about that<<<9000 posts>>>)

I'm trying to talk my buddy GeoRoss into blowing off life for a week to ride shotgun with me. If that doesn't pan out, I wouldn't mind some company. I'll let people know when he makes a decision. (no pressure Ross, this will just be the coolest thing we've done all year)

Still need to sew up some details, but it looks like I'm in. Fly into DEN, ride with Devo. Catch a ride back to DEN on Sat with Hawk or Wagonner.

Wow, I'm psyched.

Do you guys need to know how many people are coming? My rig will have me and 1 passenger.

Done!

I checked the temps for Gateway CO. this is for the week of the 4th thru the 10th

AVG Hi low 50's
AVG Lo low 20's
Record Hi 70
Record Lo 10

It will be colder in the wilderness. I don't know how many of you have experience camping in the cold, so here is my recomendation.

Your tent should be a 3 or 4 season tent with little mesh. (not a summer tent)
zero degree sleeping bags (this will be important)
a good pad under your sleeping bag to insulate from the ground.
long underwear
fleece jacket/pants (or down)
some kind of windbreak jacket/pants
rain gear
warm hat (beanie)
warm gloves
warm socks
Carb rich food for dinner will help you stay warm at night.

Think in terms of layers for your clothing so you can be comfortable no matter the Hi or Lo.

Ok, I'm in... I'll Call you to set up plans for travel and such!

Gustaf- Please add me to your list of participants as a co-driver/passenger.

Looking forward to meeting everyone, can't wait!!!

Are we there yet?:)

what to pack?

Stuff to bring on an expedition?

What you really are looking for is an educated guess at what you might need in order to put your mind at rest!

Now what I mean by this is if your going to the tropics, well take sun tan lotion, if your going to the polar regions… maybe some warm clothes. Those are the obvious ones but think about things, educate yourself on what you need.

Does your truck snap Birfields easily? More likely do you? Well bring a spare. But think it through; you might need some seals and grease to go along with it, maybe some tools and locktite.

Are you going through water? Maybe some WD-40 & dielectric grease? Than that leads into if you get stuck in the water and have to recover… you might need a spare set of lower clothing, shoes, socks, pants, unders.

One of the interesting things about putting together one of these expeditions is you get to chat with all kinds of people who’ve been doing this sort of thing for some time. The short list I’ve put together is will a bunch of input from many folks and than edited down for this event.

Meds, if you need them, first aid for sure
CB radio, if your still into the little hand held ones now is the time to upgrade!
Communication, we’ll have a Sat. phone with us.
Water, bring your fancy drinking water if you like but don’t overlook a jug of plain H2O
Food, look for stuff that leaves little trash, we have to pack it all out!
Clothes, 2 sets, one to get dirty one that’s kept clean for the end
Socks, unders, I like daily changes
Two pairs of good sturdy shoes
Cold weather gear, hat, gloves
Flash/head lamp
Warm Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat to get you up off the ground
Sealable tent, Cold Weather use.
Cook set, fork, knife, cup, and bowl.
Multitool
Some type of stove to heat food.
Matches
Baby wipes, might wanna shower?
Bundle of firewood for the general campfire.
Chair
Shovel
Trash bags
TP!

Porto-Potty, there is great debate weather we can use a shovel or have to “pack it out”. If you have one great! Otherwise I’d hold off and borrow ours or somebody else’s… you pack your S_ _ t out though, hehe

Vehicle, know your truck and bring what you think you might need, along with a few tools and Books if you got em.
Try to Have you maintenance done before the trip, DRIVE your truck for a week or two, if it’s not a daily driver, prior to going. If anything pops up you might be able to have it taken care of.
*FJ Cruiser Guys* we’ll have to common (front CV & drear Diff) spare with us, so you unless you put a log through your radiator, we’ll have you covered. I should note if your truck is highly customized, you’re on your own.

I could spend all day chatting about this, but keep in mind we’re not going on the Alaskan cruiser trek, nor are when headed to the empty quarter of the Gobi dessert. So keep this in mind! Read how much your truck is rated to carry and stick to it, refrain from overloading.

At any rate bring what you must to put your mind at rest, refrain from bringing a spare truck though.

Here are a couple of sites that are interesting:

PS if you wanna go vertical on this one, E-mail Garret, he’s got some huge list!
