I saw that. Hope he gets to do that some more.

Looks like you're blazing a new trail with a link suspension in MS.

You might want to check with orangefj45 (Georg) to see if he has a system you could use.

blaze

The only thing i've blazed is my bank account since I bought this thing.

Seriously though, I don't want to make it unsafe to drive on the street just in case my girlfriend "borrows" it.

There is a 4 link calculator floating around. pirate4x4 had one that you can download if you are into designing on computer.

All the stuff i read about it seems to come down to making sure the lower links are longer than the upper links. Upper links should be 70% I believe of the lower links in measurements. and try to get as much triangulation as possible. I believe somewhere between 30-40 degrees.

Anyone out there feel free to correct me if i am wrong..

Dont reinvent the wheel. Proffitt's actually makes a 4-link kit that is set up for Cruisers.

Also, there is a guy that just did a 4-link (rocktherdog) on Pirate in the Cruiser section. Copy his. If you just do the rear, the front leaf springs will keep the thing stable on the road for the most part.

I called proffitt's. Going with their setup.

Bought a 74' tonight. Anyone have a rear sill or tub for sale :)?

Good idea going with a kit. calculations are done for ya. post up pics of the kit when you get it in. Are you gonna start a build thread?

X2 on the build thread! Wish you were closer...would love to help and learn.

about that...

I'm going to take my time and have this done semi-right. Basically I told the various guys I've been talking with this: I don't want a cut-up truck. I'd like to stay stock(ish) when I can. I do however want to be able to pull two or three handles and run over some serious *****. And yes... the cooler stays bolted to the carrier... I'm NOT taking that off.

So...
The 6.0/400/205 is going for a 4bt/th400/dana 300.
The 4bt should be on the way next week. The guys at North West Fabworks said I should go dana300 and put a ford 8" in the rear for the center drop and disc brakes. I wasn't too happy about that but I'll just run it until I blow it up.. Then we'll get serious about axles.

D'Animal gave me some good advice on mounting that diesel. I was against the cummins because of the vibration. With a balancer/lord mounts/ right mount location.... he's convinced me to give it a shot.

This leaves me without an Fj40 for the summer.

I got another one today... This is where I need some help. This 74' has drums all the way around and no PS. Would you do a conversion for the brakes or just get a cruiser axle with brakes? Does anyone have an axle with disc brakes?
PS: from looking at the 2f in this thing... I'm thinking it's gonna really suck trying to put a box in it. What method would yall use? I like the idea of the FJ60 box. I read the IPOR article and really want to do it that way. Pointers? Parts?

Hopefully I'll get to come down and meet some of yall at the meeting one of these days. And Lash, that tub still wants a new home.

Even better! I got one out of a bread truck. 74k miles. Hope it doesn't strand me out in the middle of nowhere.

So, what are you building the 74 or your other 40? The 74 looks good. Is it a 4 speed? If so, stick an aussie in the rear, get a disc brake front end and booster from a 76-78 40. Add some tires and have some summer fun.

The 74 is a 4spd. The other 40 is a 78 awaiting the diesel stuff.

I'm hoping I can fit my new 78's 31.5's to the '74. I'm hunt'n a front axle and power steering kit.

I need some more cruiser shirts/sweatshirts Jeff. My gf has stolen all of them.

Go Saginaw. I just got thru with one(3 months ago). I can help you get what you need...I have a bracket that you need,... depending on what air filter you have.
