So how well does your standard cruiser e-brake work when you blow a driveline or u-joint or a t-case? Seems everyone is talking about how you are sol when you lose hydraulic pressure, I've seen far more rear drivelines and t-cases fail crawling..........just to play the devil's advocate

When you blow driveshaft, u-joint, etc, you don't need an emergency brake - your regular brakes still work. When your hydraulic brakes fail, and all you have is a line-lock for an e-brake, you are scr*&ed!

Line locks are usefull but have some pros and cons
pros -
good for temporarily holding the vehicle on a hill so you can work the clutch and gas and more easilyl release the brake (than the standard e brake).
good for giving your brake leg a break when waiting on a hill or hung in the rocks. Again you can do this with the standard ebrake but hitting a switch is easy.
cons -
not a true emergency brake since it uses the same components and the standard brake systems. Any failure in line and these are useless
Mechanical ones may hold pressure for a long time unless there is any leak down stream.
Electrical may hold pressure again unless there is a leak or if there is any interruption of power (low battery etc.)

I have both a line lock and a fuctioning ebrake

Does TLCA consider line locks a valid form of emergency brake? Last event I did with TLCA, they weren't:confused::confused:

I was talking to TRT2 and it was his suggestion for the line lock so I am assuming that they do accept them as a viable e brake.
this is a great thread. Thanks guys for all your input.

All my hard lines and flex are in great condition. In fact two of my hard lines I just replaced. I backed up over a log and when I rolled off if it it rolled and tore off the lines into my proportioning valve. All others are only about 5 years old. I did a bonehead thing though. I used some power steering fluid to top the resivior off. Bad thing. Plane water would of been better. I flushed with denatured alcohol and then with regular brake fluid. It was only two days with the bad fluid in the system and now the seals in the master are bad. Si I will probably do the whole shabang at once and save the bleeding to a single time.
