nevermind I searched it myself.

sorry for being a lazy azz in previous post.

those are some killer prices if the boots kick ass as u fella's state.

The Alicos I had were considerably more durable than the Asolos but don't hold even a match flame to the Limmers. One of Carl's sales stories is about a biker who bought a pair of Standards who then managed to drop the footpeg of his Harley on his ankle when he dumped at speed. Got up and walked away, didn't have to have the boot repaired.

Bean stuff always gets a nod from me, too. Their warranty is one of the, if not the, easiest and best in the world, besides that what they sell is typically great quality to begin with.

A quick update on the Alico Summits I ordered. I'm very pleased with the fit
and finish of these hiking boots. I'm a 10.5 M and they are true to size. They
will need a good break-in period but should be fine by this summer. I'm really
looking forward to hitting the Central High Sierras this June/July/Aug. $139.00
is a good price for a boot of this quality. Just my 2 cents...Thanks for the tip
about these boots! Jeff

I have the Alico Guides and Alico Tahoes. The Guides are just too big for anything I'll ever need them for. The Tahoes for me are about the perfect weight. I think they are a good alternative to those that are looking for something like the old Sundowners. Plus the Alico's have a Vibram sole and are a norweigian welt design making them easily to resole in the future.

One thing of note: The insoles that come with the Alico's arent the greatest ...imo. I replaced mine with some superfeet insoles which are much better.

I am wearing my new boots at the moment and would agree that the insoles
are not the best. Where did you purchase superfeet insoles?

Lars, which superfeet insole are you using? I see that they can be purchased at REI. Thanks-Jeff

For now I've got blue superfeets in my alico tahoes - so far so good. But if I find a local place that has the custom fit superfeet I'm gonna try those.

in this arena how do Merrells compare? i've got a pair of casual Merrell shoes that are basically a light breatheable sneaker. obviously not a boot but they've held up extremely well and i've put them through a lot. i'm interested in buying a pair of boots for work/trail use and logically i thought Merrells would be a good option but i've not seen them mentioned here

I've been wearing Limmer boots for many years. I have a pair of Custom boots that are about 10 years old, love them and I wear a pair of light weight boots every day. Limmer boots are the most comfortable shoes that i have ever worn. But follow the break in instructions to the letter, and if you have any problems with fitting give them a call, they will help solve any problems. I also have a pair of mid weight boots that no longer fit , to small, that are about 12 years old, hate to get rid of them.

I think you nailed it with the sneaker comment. What has been talked about here are more old school, full leather hiking boots with a stitched on sole that is more or less easily re-soled. I expect to get many years of service out of my Limmers and I would expect much the same out of the Alicos and many other high end full leather hiking boots. They are not for everybody but In my opinion a much less a disposable item and priced that way.

It is also my personal belief that hiking boots made in Italy, Germany or in the USA are of a higher quality than models made in China. You can get a feel of this idea here in this thread with the pre China still made in Italy Vasque boot comments.

I wish I had seen this thread earlier. I own two pair of Limmer Ultralights, two pair of Limmer Lightweights, and two pair of Limmer Midweights.

I bought them at Alabama Outdoors. Every Late January they have a sale. Nearly 50% off.

I hike ALLOT in the Washington Cascades every summer. Of all the boots Id say the LightWeights are probably the best all around boot Ive ever had.

The problem is that Limmer is close to banckrupsy. The Alabama Outdoors people were told by Limmer that they will no longer be selling boots through retailers. Its either that or banckrupsy they were told. So, no more sale on Limmer boots every January.

The off the shelf Limmers are made in Germany by Meindl. I was told by a cobler here in Seattle NOT to buy the hand made Limmers! I was told that the off the shelf Limmers are better made than the custom boots!

The Mid Weights do take a long time to break in. The mid's and Ultras take ZERO break in. The Ultras are also awesome boots. You can almost run in the damn things they are so light. The quality is increadible.

Hope this helps.

Just recieved my pair of Ed Viesturs Ultra Cushion insoles by SOLE. Put in the oven at 200 for 2 minutes then insert and wear your boots for 2 minutes.
These insoles are a Huge improvement over the ones that came with my
Alico Summits..What a difference!

Carl told me that the green intersoles were too thick for use in Limmers. I ended up with a really nice product called 'Downunders". Perfect fit, and the Lighweights are now very comfortable. Should be perfect by fall hunting season.

I just bought the Alico Tahoe's based on your guys' reccomendations. Couldnt beat the price at 95 bucks+shipping! I'll let you know how they work out when I get them. I think I'm going to get those insoles too.

They were $95 because I found a 20% off coupon for Sierra Trading Post. It's code 54400 if you want to use it, should be good through the week at least...

Im pretty sure the Lightweights, Midweights and Standards are meant to be uesd without any insouls. The Ultras have an insole, but the others do not.

What is the logic behind that? I tried a pair of light weights on and really liked them, but I'm worried that no insole will end up beinf uncomfortable on long hikes. My Vasque Sundowners are similar to the light weights in heft and style but even with a modest insole they can feel too hard if not on dirt.

A pair od insoles came in the box with my Lightweights. I didn't like them and called Carl Limmer. He said that thin to medium insoles will work fine, that I shoul;d try different ones until I got a fit I liked. He cautioned against insoles that are too thick, since they can lift the heel out of the counter pocket, and this causes fit problems.
