@CreeperSleeper said I have a brand new transfer case mounted parking brake that will be installed shortly. Just hasn't made the top of the list yet but is close. It looks great - uses the factory handle in cab and cable routing to the lever arm kind of "midships" under the truck. From there you mount the aftermarket pieces.
Last time out seemingly every time I started the truck it had a real high idle. I would aggressively blip the throttle and it would drop to normal RPM. I have no choke as somewhere along the line it seems the wire for it has gone MIA. So it wasn't that.
Took a look at and around the carb and found a suspicious little spring loose sitting on the intake manifold. Then saw on the back of the carb a little post with a groove on the end that sure looked like it should have a spring attached. Some more looking and a quick Google search confirmed that spring was supposed to be on my secondary linkage. Hooked it back up and problem solved. Not sure how/why it came off but that is a problem for another day. Pic for example in case anyone else experiences same behavior.
Got to a couple small tasks today. I clearanced the rear flatbed to frame mounts that were rubbing the tires at full stuff. They may still make some contact but the tire violence should be minimized. Before & after pics:
Also got the tube sander out and did some cleanup on the sliders then hit 'em with good old Rustoleum. Driver side pics for example.
Today's project: oil pressure gauge. I really wanted to mount it in the blank inside the gauge cluster. As you can see in the pic it fit darn near perfectly. The problem was the depth of the Autometer gauge would have required me to cut open the rear of the gauge cluster and I was none too interested in that.
So, I sacrificed the driver side vent for it. I also installed a steel braided line from the oil galley on the side of the block and remote mounted the gauge sender, as well as the idiot light sender, up on the firewall.
Looks like I have around 25psi at idle and 50 just off idle.
Parking brake installed! All went in pretty straightforward. I did have to do a small bit of hackery to get some additional length on the OE Toyota parking brake cable. I'll keep an eye on those cable clamps and possibly come up with something better, or not. Time will tell. For now I'm happy to report I have a functioning parking brake.
