Since we're now in the 09, I got to thinking about what is the rustiest part of my rig and that came down to the tailgate and the rockers. I'm thinking of trying to find someone local to fab me a set of the tube slider/steps for the pig (doubt anyone has any they want to let loose of in our forum) or buy a set from IPOR. I've been inspired by a recent thread on this subject and want to tackle this issue in the next couple of months.

Does anyone know the length of these step sliders that I would need for this 69 model? Thanks for your help in advance, Dave

Even,

Didn't know if there was a varience in lenghts on later models but you're probably right w/ IPOR...Lance probably knows the length by heart. Thanks, Dave

Dave/Tim, IIRC; Lance has a couple of sets of sliders left; I got mine from him and they are HEAVY duty!:D give him a call; he or "Cam" are very knowledgeable and helpfull..HTH:cheers:

Spoke to Lance at IPOR today (only by luck as they were working on personal projects). A dedicated lover of pigs (and as predicted he knew the length by heart...roughly 63"). Here's the deal: Its pretty much what Heather, Lou etc went through a while back. He is out of stock but willing to produce if 10 customers will commit for its creation. He mentioned $195 for the inner rocker and the same for the outer slider. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 for the shipping? Please don't quote on the prices. I'm just putting out this feeler for all interested since he is an ardent lover of the 55.

COMMITMENT is the key word. He is a business man and can't take a hit so if 10 buyers are in they must go the distance. I can't say I have $500 to join in but since I brought up the thread I thought I should pass along in the event others are willing to pony up. Hope this is some help to those who are in my shoes and have available $$. Dave

BTW--IPOR's toll free is 1-866-Iron Pig

Mtnmort,

Check out k9Crazy's "IPOR Rocker Sliders" thread and it will detail the inner portion available from IPOR with photos. Want to do this since its really important to the longevity of the pig but will have to find a way since my OT is no longer available at work. There are alternatives, such as Pighead's suggestion (will have to do a search on his thread but it involved some angle iron). It would do in a pinch. Its just that Lance's work is truer to the body of the pig.

If I can't come up with the dough, I will probably look for an alternative such as Pighead's. No matter what I want to do something in regards to rust this year (such as the wheel well arches that you have discussed) Dave

Given the harsh economics of our times, I doubt we can put together 10 folks for the IPOR sliders. Can anyone out there give me some dimensions (including thickness) and a single photo that I can print out so that I can see if a local welder can help me fab up the inner rocker and the step slider? Just PM me and I'll send an email address if you want. Just need a single photo to print to give the guy an idea. All help is appreciated, Dave

I'll try to get some measurements this weekend.

Basically a 2x2 up to 3x3 maybe to replace the current rockers - box it in and weld to frame. Then some 1.75 to 2 inch DOM 0.120 or thicker for the tube with some supports - maybe HREW and a bit thicker than the DOM.

Thanks I appreciate it. Excuse my ignorance but what is DOM? Diameter of metal? and what is HREW? Looking forward to hearing from you, Dave

Dave - those are two different types of metal tubing. I'll post up some additional info on that once I take my measurements. I thought I bookmarked a good link on the info but I can't find it now... I'll find something for you though.

Thanxs Even,

I know Heather's IPOR thread had some pics. Will check back in next week when I can print from work. Dave

Thanks!!! Started printing just now. So 3/16" for the inner and a good thickness for the tubing should be .120".??? At work so I'm printing and working and getting my ducks in a row to take it to a local welder.

Edit...Lance said 63" but he was busy that day. Even got it at 68.5" long. Can I get another confirmation on the 68.5 before I go to my guy? Just want to make sure. Many thanks to Eventhough and others who have the measurements, Dave

All out of stock. Lance told me he produced them at cost to give back to the community but just couldn't afford to produce unless he had 10 orders. He seemed just as everyone has described him: straight up and honest.

I hope I can get this done locally. So do both the inner rocker panel and the outer step slider both measure 68.5" long?? Thanks, Dave

The 4x4 measured 68.5" long. The 2 inch tube (step) was a bit shorter. Let me take a good side-shot tonight and I'll label the pic with dimensions and post it up.

Excellent......really appreciate your taking the time to help, Dave
(will help others in the future too I'm sure)
