my 95 4runner (3L engine, full cab) and runs coil spring front and leaf spring rear suspension... the other day i sat in a friends hilux surf (coil spring rear) and the ride was phenomenal. i want to do this conversion to my 4runner... from what i understood after looking under both the 4runner and hilux surf was the diff tube, coil spring, spring seat support bars(diff to the front of the chassis) need to be there for this swap to happen. any body done this swap? help would be really apreiciated.

ideally if somebody from the asia pacific region can also point me towards a reliable junk yard where i can source the nessary parts.

it seems to me that you want to go to a 3 or 4 link suspension. The easiest way is to buy a donor vehicle and swap everything over, or you can get into custom suspensions. If you have the tube, tools, bender, and know how to do simple geometry than you good. if not i believe there are some aftermarket bolt/minimal fab kits availble.

You're 95 4RUnner has leafs in the rear? I thought they were all coil rear 90 +? Swapping the stock coil set up can be done, but it's a lot of work and you get a decent ride, but not much flex.... A custom 4 link would be better, and possibly less work than the stock coil swap....

a 95 definitely has coils.

I'd go with a custom 3-link + panhard to allow the tank to stay in the stock position.

hey guys thanks for the reply. the LN135 4runner came with a 3L engine and leaf springs at the back.

the car is mainly a city runner so a comfortable ride is what am looking for. excuse my ignornace but what is a 3-4 way suspension? and where can i get more details regarding the same.

i live in india and 4runners and hiluxs are a rarity here so any part which needs to be sourced needs to be from abroad . so if you guys can point me in the right direction to where i can get toyota part numbers on the internet.( i know bmw has realoem for part numbers and part discription)

or breaker who can help me.

any further help will be of great help as i want to do the coil spring rear mod first and then the 3L turbo later so i have a cool ride... which takes me everyhwere

thanks,

phil

Oh, OK. now this makes sense. you have a 4Runner/Surf! no wonder it has rear leafs!

here is a link with all kinds of builds.
a 3, 4, or 5 link is a type of suspension that uses either 3, 4, or 5 bars that hook to the axle and frame. It uses coil over shocks. these setups are tricky. and should not be attempted by a rookie. they allow for insane articulation.

cause i read a report indicating they will be importing them in 09. I just want to form a completely biased opinion. :flipoff2:
Are you sure you mean Tata and not Mahindra? - Quite a nice beast

I drove a 1998 Tata Telcoline back in the day before I bought my Hilux. - The dealer had it advertised as a 4x4, but it was a 4x2. :flamingo:

Welcome India!!! :D It's so cool that Toys have brought is all together. Glad to have you. The stock 90-95 4Runner has a 5 link coil suspension, 2 going forward on each side, and one going sideways.

Here's a shot of the right end of the "panhard" (sideways) bar.
