Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could guide me in the right direction. My ‘01 nav screen w/ climate control has deteriorated and is hard to see now. I’d like to repair it before I sell. I just want an OE like solution and am not looking to upgrade the whole head unit.

I searched a bunch of threads and found it may be possible to just replace the screen. Has someone else done this fix and could help? Would something like this work? Thanks!

I replaced mine in a 2002 but be forewarned, it was a very daunting operation, and I consider myself very mechanically inclined. The entire radio unit has to be dissasembled to get to the screws to remove the screen. Lots of brackets, tiny screws, and hard to get to plugs. It's doable, dont get me wrong, just not as easy as "swapping out a screen".
Also, the results were not entirely gratifying either. The new screen is way less contrasty and nowhere near as nice to view as the oem one.

Thanks for your feedback. Do you happen to have pictures of what the display looks like now?

I tried taking a picture today but couldn't get one that showed the color and contrast with any accuracy.
I have the screen settings at full contrast and full brightness and the rich brown appearance of the oem is a grayish brown on this screen. With settings at any less contrast or brightness it just gets more gray and washed out looking. The map screen with it's colors looks fine, though, although I never use it anyway.
Don't get me wrong, it is a load better than the crazed screen I replaced, just a little bit of a let down, but still glad I replaced it because the old one looked like crap, lol.
Good luck if you decide to tackle it.
I think I took pics of the dissasembled componants while I had it apart. I'll check and post them if you are interested.
