Anyone have details on what advantage(s), besides a wider track, one would gain from addition of Spidertrax wheel spacers on a 200? My thoughts are that the look alone may be worth it but I'd really like to know if they give additional clearance for larger tires w/o a lift.

I recently wrote to SLEE and this is what he had to say w.r.t. spacers :

"I would only recommend spacers if you have a specific need for them. When you lift the front end of the truck, you are losing track width, so some people put them on the front only. Spidertrax 1.25" will fit the TRD wheels as they are standard M14"

LCKID what size did you go with on the spacers?

the only size available from Slee (spidertrax), 1.25" (31.75mm). i was told by dealer that installed them that the spacers are very good and would only have one issue; bearings will have to be replaced at 50'000km instead of 150'000km......

can't say i quite agree with only installing the spacers in front, that could potentially cause inconsistency with the functionality of various driver assist features (VSC, ABS, Traction-control, diff-lock)

thoughts???

LCKID>>> those 305's look great ! congrats !
which spacer make are you using? width?

I want 305/55's and wondering how much i would have to lift the front to fit them??? surely with the spacers now installed they should fit easily???

***Also, the 305/50's do rub when the wheel is locked to either side since i've installed the spacers whereas before they never touched.

I am looking at adding the 1.25" spacers to help clear the King Shock remote reservoir on the driver's front. The tires currently rub slightly at full lock. I am running Toyo AT II 285/65R18 on stock rims and would like the option of running snow chains. Has anyone else had success running chains with a similar set up? If I tried to run chains today they would chew into the remote reservoir. Thank you in advance.

Your Owner's Manual states the following:

Tire chains
Observe the following precautions when installing and removing chains.
- Install and remove tire chains in a safe location.
- Install tire chains on the rear tires only. Do not install the chains on the
front tires.

- Install tire chains following the instructions provided in the accompanying
manual.

Any idea why they only call for rear chains?

Do you still have those Slee spacers? Any particular reason you decided not to use them?

I sold them. They made every wheel and tire combo I had rub

My 3rd Gen 4Runner manual said the same thing. I think the clearances may be too tight to guarantee you won't something, especially when turning at full lock and/or under heavy articulation. On the 4Runner I ended up using low profile Z-chains on the front and they cleared just fine when climbing up twisty mountain switchbacks in the snow.

In attempt not to hijack this thread, am offering a tangential bridge to a similar, but different discussion on a related thread...

If anyone on this thread can offer insight into being able to run 9/32 to 3/8 chains up front on a stock height rig with 285/65R18 or 275/70R18 tires after installing the spidertrax spacers, your input in response to my post in the below thread would be appreciated.

Tire Chains on a 200 Series?

@lgop - this may be aligned to your question above.

Thanks!

With spacers, you are increasing the sweep or arc of the tires as your turn, so you're moving the tire's edge closer to wheel wells, mud flaps, etc. The spacer might help you clear the sway bars, but they'll cut down your fender/wheel-well/mud flap clearance considerably. Adding real chains to that mix means that little rub can turn into a chain link grabbing/grinding stuff. So that nice little (minor) rub could turn into a nasty damaging rub with chains.

I ran chains up front on my 100 series years ago, and realized right away that I needed to be careful not to turn to full lock, or compress the suspension. In other words...I quit using chains up front, and relied instead on a good set of snow tires (or at least AT's that perform well in snow).
