Has anyone considered putting an exhaust kit on? I don't think any major companies make a kit (and I doubt they will), but one could be fabricated.

I have heard some pretty sick Tundra's with the 5.7.

Any recommendations? If I did do a cat-back install, I would want it to be deep, but now too loud (no flowmaster, etc). Something just to bring out the big V8 sound without being obnoxious. Mellow at low throttle, but really opens up with RPMs. I also want that 100+ HP boost that exhaust kits give you :hillbilly:

Any thoughts/ideas?

EDIT: I also know that headers are floating around here somewhere, so adding headers, high-flow filter, and exhaust should give a little something. I'm guessing there are no re-programming options? ECU Power mode would be nice for these mods.

I've had Borla Cat Back on two Toyotas...Supercharged Sequoia and '05 Tacoma...loved both, and would do it to the 200 too. They make a great sounding muffler, low grumble, and not too loud.

Good luck on the 100+ HP boost, never seen that out of exhaust.

LOL, yeah that was a joke. I kid I kid!

Haven't you heard that adding cool "Summit Racing" and other performance stickers give you at least 5-10 HP as well? ;)

I have seen upwards of 20HP, but not on newer cars since the exhaust systems are pretty good from the factory. I think though that the 5.7 is a beast and can be improved by just letting it roar a bit more.

No company will ever make a cat-back system, but I have a good exhaust shop that can mandrel bend tubing and stuff a new muffler under their. I think the 200 has a cat, muffler, and then a final silencer/resonator right at the end. Cut that down to one high-performance muffler and we're golden. Maybe $500 tops for the job? Not too difficult if you follow the stock routing path with a single rear exit. But duals out the rear are tempting. I'm not a fan of rear side exits.

Lightening bolts add 20hp, but flames only 15hp. You cannot combine the two, and they do not add to the summit racing sticker.

It would be an easy job for any muffler shop with a mandrel bender. I'm not sure what the improvement would be, possibly also some fuel economy increase? I kinda like the current sound. When you pound on it, it goes, and sounds great!

I would like to see an exhaust tip coming out of the kaymar rear bumper so I don't have to worry about crushing it again.

So did you actually order the kaymar? Forgot if you did or not. Can't wait though!

You could always do a rear side exit and not have that problem??? Just a quick bend 90* and you're set.

Looks like I found someone putting together a cat back system for the 200...

Doug Thorley Headers in need of a LC for test fit - Tundra Solutions Forum

It is Doug Thorley, the same people who do the headers for the 5.7 V8

Well it looks like DTT will be picking up this one. He better read this thread!!! I would do it if I was in cali....
Specially with his messed up tailpipe and all...that's enough to go cat back in my opinion.

If I were him, I would ask for the headers too!

Already on it!!

Will report back!

Well I am bringing my baby into them next week most likely.

They are going to fit all three different exhausts that they build on her. Make sure they fit for everyone else...then they will give me the one of my choice for my troubles :)

The models they have are the following:

Dual driver side exhaust

Single driver and then passenger exhaust

Dual Driver side behind the rear wheel mud flap exhaust.

I am most interested in the one behind the mud flap. That should help in the future for voiding crushing the tip.....like some dumb people do!

So to add pics, it would be like this?

Dual driver side exhaust

Single driver and then passenger exhaust

Dual Driver side behind the rear wheel mud flap exhaust.

[Never seen this before...it's like dual, but on the driver side]

What about this?
Duel split side exit
prod_style_exit_14.gif

Keep in mind that usually driver's side exits are louder than rear exits, which are louder than side passenger exits.

I wonder how much space the dual driver's side would take up? Remember: When you leave that rock with the rear tire, you don't want it to come smashing down on your shiny pipes!

Very nice pics....the first two are correct. The last one would be just like the last pic, but make both tips come out the drivers side, not split.

DTT255...talk to them about having them painted black from cat back? I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say once they are on. Also, I would see if they could dino your rig after install...keep the results.

Hope all goes well, you lucky dog!

Yes DYNO!!! Before and after! Make sure they stay legit (i.e. no games: ECU POWER MODE ON, A/C OFF, same outside temp, no heat soak, hood down or up, etc.) I wanna see real numbers!

DTT: Are you going to get their headers as well? They may make you a deal...

Look into this unit as well:
Underdog Racing Development

I have heard of it before, but have no idea about it's use on a Land Cruiser. People have installed them on Tundra's, but I'm not finding any specifics regarding the 5.7.

Have not searched much...but there are plenty of people using this device and info is aplenty.

(BTW: It is designed for S/C applications, but many users have found great results after installing this along with a high-flow filter, headers, and cat back.)

I would not recomend getting the exhaust behind the tire. when ever you come off a rock it will crush the tips. worst place to put it. have them come out the back. just dont be a retard and back into objects.

Yeah, I would tend to agree. The rear is a much safer place. Think about what happened to your mudflaps happening to your exhaust.

Also, to quote bwbski, "just dont be a retard and back into objects." DTT, I think you have a problem with this, and he probably doesn't even know half the story, lol! :flipoff2:
