LC miles to empty seems off a good bit

If I refuel my 2019 LC when it says 30 miles to empty, I can only put in about 19 gallons. Is this common? Hate feeling up and leaving 5 gallons on the table.

This is asked every few weeks... ;)

4+ gallons are still in the tank when it says zero range. Strange...yes...but completely normal.

Fits right in with the conservative design strategy of everything else on these vehicles

So I told that LC still have a few gallons in the tank because it need to Guarantee that the vehicle will start at different angles when park. So if you were parked on a hill or off camber and you’re low on gas it will still start however if it’s empty and you try to start the car it may not start because the fuel pump will be sucking air.... tundra’s with the 38 gallon fuel have the same issue.... you can fill about 30 gallons when the light comes on

There have been a lot of reasons given for it over the years, and I am still not a fan of it, nor do I buy into the reasons for it.
However it has been true will all the 200s I have owned as well as all the Tundra's I had.
Same thing happens over at Nissan, the Armada/Patrol I had a couple years ago and all the current body style Titans I have in the business fleet all do it.

The funny thing is that with the poor mileage my last Tundra had it's 38 gallon tank had less functional range then my 26 gallon 6.2L Silverado had.

It is just one of those things. I find that if I catch right when the range goes to 0 I can pretty much judge how much farther I can go. still a bit unsettling seeing that low fuel light and 0 to empty, even when I know its not accurate.

For me the light means I have 4 gallons left and depending on whether it’s hwy or local I can judge distance based on that.

Also note that these trucks submerge the fuel pump in a small sub-tank within the main one. The small one stays full of fuel and the pump draws from this to send on to the rails. So there’s no risk of overheating the pump unless you actually run it out of fuel.
