Hey all!

I have been posting on mud since I got my 2014 200 series last July. Since then I have been slowly building up "Laura" to be my perfect baby hauler and weekend warrior. I figured now would be a good time to start a build thread because I have done a few things that I see as unique and do not have much literature on them in these forums. l preface this thread by saying, I have done all of this on a budget and with an itch to do things a bit differently than the normal. You may be able to see that in the car itself and in some of the parts I have chosen. All in all, I feel like Laura has come together to be my perfect daily, baby hauler and offroad weekend warrior. I do not think I could have chosen a better vehicle. I will do several different installments of this thread, so let me know if there is anything specific you'd like me to focus on.

The 200 I chose:

When looking for a 200 series I had a pretty tight budget of $47k, I wanted a 2013-2015 for the upgrades over the pre facelift. I love a good story with a car and this one did not dissapoint. The car was located in Chicago and only had 27k miles on it. The carfax also showed that it had only driven 200 miles in the past year and a half, which seemed odd. After asking the dealer and people around, turns out that the previous owner passed away from what seemed to be a stroke at the young age of 55. After he passed, the car sat in his driveway for a year while the estate got sorted out. The dealer (who claimed to be friends with the owner) bought the car from the estate auction. I was told that the car definitely needed love. It had some bumps and bruises, slight undercarriage surface rust, and a fender that had been resprayed. With this information, I talked the dealer down from $52k to $47,500 and would be sending them my 2013 JKU for a very fair trade in price. If I did not like projects, I would not have bought this car. But like I said, I love a good car story. And I felt like she deserved a good home after her previous owner passed. I've since had a paint correction done, removed all undercarriage rust, and a few dents pulled.

The parts I've chosen so far:
  • OEM Spacers (removed)
  • Fox 2.0 Suspension
  • SPC UCAs
  • Black Rhino Rhoku 18x9.5
  • 275/70 18 BFG K02 (removed)
  • 275/70 18 Falken Wildpeak AT3
  • Black Oak 7inch Round Spot LEDs
  • Diode Dynamics Pod lights (removed)
  • Diode Dynamics SL1 yellow LED foglights
  • Morimoto 9005 LED high beam/DRL
  • Grom Vline2
  • Odyssey redtop battery
  • Adams Spray coating
  • A bunch of little things that arent really worth listing.
Here's how she looks as of a week ago (before I switched to Falkens).

Looks great!

How are those front lights mounted on the bumper?

kind of thrown together mounts that ended up working well. I cut my old OEM spacers in half and mounted them to the grille support using old harbor freight sockets as spacers... it was a quarantine project. I have a buddy who does metal work who said when he gets time he will make me some legit ones. Surprisingly very little shake and only at low speeds. I’ll take more pictures when I’m in the garage later.

Welcome and great looking rig.

Curious as there's not usually a lot of cross-over between KO2s and Falkens. Usually pretty die-hard one way or another. Why the change?

Once you get some miles, interested to hear your feedback. I'm looking into 35s and always looking for that next thing.

Thank you! I’ve had constant issues balancing the BFGs and in my opinion once they’re slightly worn they get pretty loud. I had the issue on my Jeep (two sets) and the issue seemed to be really bad on the set on the 200. Never left me stranded though. Got fed up after awhile and made the switch. I’ve only had the falkens for a day and they’re incredibly quiet and seem to ride a bit smoother. But as you said, we will see how they do after a few thousand miles and after a few rotations. So far, very impressed.
