I actually have a free day for once. Going to have an early lunch at A&W in Sooke and then head up North Main (just past Jordan River). Going to head up towards the Kludahk trail and the cabin that is there at 1100m. Hope to find some snow for my kids (and cruiser) to play in. Anyone in Victoria interested in joining text me.

Have fun, looking forward to the pictures..and happy new year Nick

I was up Forby and then on to Alligator main. Too bad we didn't cross paths. It was great to get out for the first day of 2019. Not being hungover was a new experience.

Was great to get out indeed; had a lot of fun in the snow. Also helped recover a couple stuck Toyota pick-ups. Will post pictures later tonight when I find some time....

Headed up the hill after lunch at A&W. Started hitting snow around 700-800m. Passed lots of families in small SUV's who were playing in the snow. I wanted to go further to find some nicer snow, so kept going up the hill. I aired down to 18psi or so and had no problems at all.

Couldn't go any further here as someone had left their Toyota parked by this narrow spot in the road (big stump on one side). Ticked me off a bit. Anyhow, grabbed the sleds and stuff and started hiking.

Found a second truck that was totally stuck.

Kids started heading up the sledding hill. Hard to tell in this picture, but it's about an 18% grade. Really quick sledding hill.

Eventually the owners of the pick-ups came back. Some UVic students. I ended up driving around the side of the red truck, got in front, and towed him up the hill enough that he could back into the turn around spot. He got stuck again, but his buddy in the grey truck was having better luck and turned around further up the road where I did. The grey truck then pulled the red truck out down the hill and away they went. The red truck would have been find if it had some weight in the back, and had aired down. More driving skill was needed also. They would have got out fine on their own, but it would have been a lot more effort. They were very thankful I helped out.

My truck is sitting on top of the snow here. It's easily another 18" deep under the tires. Even on skinny tires, airing down was all that was needed to keep me on top.

Ruts where I sank deep while driving around the red truck.

After the pick-ups left I got back to sledding with the kids. This hill was awesome. I thought about continuing up to the cabin, but decided against it. Could easily have done it as my truck was performing extremely well in this snow, but kids weren't really interested in the cabin and daylight was running out. Next time.

Looks like a good time, wish I’d been able to head down. I had a beautiful day cleaning gutters and roof from wind storm debris. Think about something for mid February?

That's how my whole year has been. Always work to do and never time to get out. Yes, February would be great. I'm sure we'll only be getting more snow by then.
